Diy Essential Oil Play Dough for Kids

Do your kids appreciate essential oils as much as you do? Maybe they’re not quite there yet. So why not get them involved with your love for all things oily by making your own play dough with them! Not only is this process easy, but the product is so much fun. Your kids will learn to love our essential oils for kids as they let their creativity flow with inspiring oils like Lavender, Sweet Orange and Lemon. Making your own play dough with the kids is sure to become a family tradition.

What You Need

1 c. Salt

1/3 c. Water

1/2 c. Cornstarch

1/4 c. Cold Water

Natural Color Dyes, like these.

3 drops of Lavender, Sweet Orange, or Lemon (choose one oil per clay) diluted to 1%

DETAILS, DETAILS

  1. Stir salt into the water on a saucepan over medium heat for 5 minutes. The mixture should end up looking snowy and be on the dryish side. You won't see excess liquid after the 5 minutes if you’ve got your proportions right.
  2. Remove from heat. Add in cornstarch, and cold water. Stir a little, then separate the dough into 3 portions for your 3 color/oil varieties. Add in your diluted kid-friendly essential oil of choice and dye per portion. Then stir each until smooth.
Marbling Tip: to get our marbled effect, wait till the end when the dough is already made and smooth to add the dyes. Add drops here and there and then twist the dough to integrate the color. Remold the dough in your hands to smooth it back out, and voila!
  3. Allow clay to cool.
  4. Once cool, break out the cookie cutters and have fun!

*Store in airtight container, and place in the fridge. Modeling Clay should last 1-2 weeks. Aroma may dissipate over time.

*Please supervise children when handling the playdough, and ensure they don’t consume the product.
