Frequently Asked Questions

What is Meadowfoam oil?

  • Meadowfoam seed oil is a carrier oil that is lesser known and has its unique capacity to moisturize skin and hair without being greasy. The oil is extracted from the seeds of the white and yellow flowers of the Meadowfoam plant that is native to the west coast of North America and Canada. Its Latin botanical name is Limnanthes alba. It is an excellent carrier oil for all skin types.

Is Meadowfoam oil good for skin?

  • Meadowfoam seed oil is considered an emollient for the skin and hair. An emollient type of oil naturally creates a protective seal on the skin and hair to lock in moisture. Other emollients are shea butter and avocado oil. For those with very dry skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, this oil is incredibly beneficial in a skin care routine due to its long chain fatty acids that also give it a long shelf life. It can also be applied in cases of stretch marks and sun damaged skin. Add it to liquid soap, body wash and lip balm recipes for a moisturizing experience or when using a bath bomb as well as to a massage oil.

Is Meadowfoam oil comedogenic?

  • A comedogenic ingredient is a substance that has a high likelihood of clogging pores which can lead to acne, blemishes and blackheads. The comedogenic rating of Meadowfoam oil is 1 out of 5 (5 being the most severe clogging). Conclusively, this means that Meadowfoam oil will not clog most people's pores but for those whose skin is easily irritated due to sensitive skin or oily skin, Meadowfoam oil can potentially clog pores and result in other skin irritation. It is recommended to patch test Meadowfoam oil on the inner arm for 24 hours before using over a larger portion of the body. If redness, itchiness or irritation occurs, discontinue use.

Where to buy Meadowfoam oil?

  • Edens Garden has an excellent Meadowfoam oil. It has a deep red-orange color and is extracted from the seeds of the Meadowfoam plant flowers and made with the cold pressed extraction method. It can be used in skincare and body care products as well as blended with essential oils that reduce inflammation, dry skin and redness and for those looking to improve skin texture and suppleness. Added to hair care products for straight or curly hair to encourage hair growth and improve the texture and body of hair as well as in beard oil recipes.

Can Meadowfoam oil be used on baby’s skin?

  • Along with carrier oils Jojoba and Calendula carrier oils, Meadowfoam Seed carrier oil is safe for use on babies skin without leaving a greasy mess behind. It has properties that match closely to our own natural sebum and with babies and children is a safe carrier oil to use on all skin types for all ages, baby, child and adults alike.
