Frequently Asked Questions
Is Wild Verbena essential oil the same as Lemon Verbena?
  • Edens Garden’s Wild Verbena oil is not the same as Lemon Verbena. Native to South Africa, Wild Verbena is a woody fragrant shrub that grows to about 3 to 7 feet and has lemon-scented leaves and small white flowers that develop into small fruit. Verbena is also known as the fever tree, wild tea, and lemon bush. The herb is steam distilled to extract the dark yellow essential oil. On the other hand, Lemon Verbana oil is citrusy and chemically similar to Lemon Tea Tree. Both oils make great cleaners, help to ward off seasonal threats and can uplift with their clean aromas.
How to use Verbena essential oil?
  • There are several ways to effectively use Verbena essential oil and obtain its benefits, including 1.) Add 10 drops to your essential oil diffuser per 100 ml of water. 2.) Dilute 12 drops per 1 ounce of carrier oil and use in a skin-nourishing massage. 3.) Add 6 drops to 1 ounce of castille soap and 1 cup of Epsom salt for added magnesium absorption. Add the mixture to your bath and soak up the goodness. 4.) Add 10 drops to an Essential Oil Inhaler and take it with you for on-the-go therapeutic use.
Is Verbena essential oil good for dogs?
  • Animals such as dogs metabolize essential oils very differently than humans. If choosing to use Verbena essential oil around your dog, it’s important to look out for warning signs such as behavioral differences, such as whining, scratching or acting loopy. Stop using essential oils around your dog if you notice these signs, and don’t use essential oils around small dogs, puppies and pregnant dogs. We don’t recommend applying essential oils to your pup or administering oils orally without consulting a holistic veterinarian. You may diffuse oils around your dog, but be sure to do so in a well-ventilated room where your dog can leave if desired.
Is Verbena essential oil photosensitizing?
  • Certain essential oils contain natural components known as furanocoumarins. This is more common in citrus essential oils but does occur in other oils as well such as Angelica Root. Furanocoumarins cause essential oils to be phototoxic, meaning the oil can cause burns and skin irritation if sun and UV light exposure occur. Not all essential oils are phototoxic, however, including Verbena. Therefore, this oil can safely be worn in the sun so long as it’s properly diluted.
What is Verbena essential oil?
  • Also known as vervaine, Verbena essential oil (Lippia javanica) is steam distilled from the perennial plant commonly found in many gardens. Verbena offers several therapeutic benefits that make it a worthy addition to your aromatherapy arsenal. Diffused, Verbena helps break up congestion allowing you to breathe better. It also reduces stress and anxiety while boosting relaxation and concentration. Applied topically, Verbena can soothe inflammation, act as an outdoor repellant and increase antioxidant levels.
