]]>Although its exact origins are uncertain, gua sha(1) came to life through Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been practiced for centuries. Used to address health concerns such as pain and inflammation, it has been added to alternative medicine techniques as a complementary treatment to improve circulation, promote relaxation and relieve muscle tension.
“Gua,” signifies to rub or scrape and “sha” refers to the small red marks that can appear on the skin when applying the technique. These red-purplish marks imply blood stagnancy in the body and gua sha helps to give movement to the stuck energy. Facial gua sha is meant to be performed gently and has become progressively popular to promote healthy and youthful skin.
You may think that facial massage and gua sha would only benefit microcirculation of the skin, but the multitude of facial muscles that hold tension can gain some advantage here as well. The face alone holds 43 small muscles that help to control facial expressions like squinting, yawning, smiling and frowning(2) and include the four main muscles for chewing and controlling the lower jaw(3). Tension and inflammation in the face can lead to maladies such as TMJ disorder(4) (google the temporal and masseter muscles that surround the joint) and Bell’s palsy(5) - an unexplained cranial nerve dysfunction leading to facial muscle weakness or paralysis.
While studies are ongoing(6), many indicate gua sha’s positive results to initiate movement of stagnancy to facilitate oxygenation for cell renewal (the rate at which old or damaged skin cells are shed and replaced by new, healthy ones) and promote healing and nutrient delivery at the cellular level(7). Other benefits include reducing muscular tension and improving circulation, reducing sinus pressure and lessening inflammation. If you hold a lot of facial tension - in the jaw and between the brows, gua sha just may be the technique that you need to add to your routine.
Facial massage works in the same way. By massaging the face, circulation and cell turnover rate are improved for a smooth, radiant and youthful glow. Other benefits of both techniques include skin hydration, lymphatic drainage, managing scar tissue, stress relief, muscle relaxation, anti-inflammatory effects and antioxidant protection. The synergistic benefits of using gua sha and facial massage with a blend of carrier oil and diluted essential oils for the face can further rejuvenate the skin's overall appearance.
Many essential oils work well at pampering the skin of the face by helping skin heal, reducing redness, adding hydration and even smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles. Some oils add moisture and are indicated for dry and sensitive skin such as Lavender, Rose and Sandalwood. Oils like Myrrh and Frankincense can assist in ironing out fine lines and wrinkles Rosemary and Tea Tree are utilized often to reduce bacterial load on the skin and improve circumstances of breakouts and acne.
Whatever your skin type, Edens Garden mindfully crafts essential oil blends for the face that are both delicate and sophisticated. Let’s take a deeper look at some specific EG blends which also come in 10 ml pre-diluted roll-ons for your convenience:
The steps to perform gua sha and facial massage are straightforward and uncomplicated. Incorporating skin-loving carrier oils and essential oils can augment this process for their natural ability to regenerate skin cells and for the added anti-inflammatory and antioxidant healing powers. Below are pointers for using gua sha tools properly followed by step by step instructions.
Made from many different gemstones such as jade, rose quartz and bian stone, gua sha tools have many shapes. We suggest using a heart-shaped tool that has a notch, a soft straight edge as well as a curve (see the demonstration video included below in this blog.) The straight edge is used for effective scraping and the notch is for smaller areas and more detailed “erasing.”
*Note: The only time you want to use the gua sha tool at a greater angle is to break up restrictions in the fascia and to attend to wrinkles that run deeper in the skin. In this instance work the tool directly on those areas using an “eraser” type motion over the lines. Follow this motion by lessening the angle and sweeping upward and outward to smooth over those same lines.
No tool? No problem! Gentle facial massage with the hands follows these same motions and techniques to increase circulation by using your fingertips and forefingers - the benefit is that both sides can be worked on simultaneously. With either technique, the more you practice it the more it will become second nature. Feel free to follow this gua sha technique video to support these steps below:
We recommend using these massage techniques at least 2 times per week and want to remind you that with most things, consistency is important. We also suggest experimenting with these routines to find the right rhythm for your skincare journey. Everyone's skin is different and only you know your skin to best understand the frequency of using these techniques.
When it comes to essential oils, once diluted with a carrier oil, can be utilized daily for smoother, healthier and radiant skin as well as a lubricant for your gua sha and facial massage routines. Edens Garden carries pre-diluted essential oil roll-ons and if you are unsure which to choose try out purchasing a personalized roll-on combination with our favorite face roll-ons.
If you prefer to make your own DIY roll-on or desire an unscented carrier oil, Edens Garden has an abundance of specialty carriers such as Rosehip seed oil, Meadowfoam oil and Cucumber Seed oil that carry the perfect amount of hydration and love for the face. Other carriers such as Argan oil and Evening Primrose oil can also support your journey with gua sha and facial massage.

The natural plant power of essential oils aligns superbly with those of us seeking products free from potentially harmful chemicals often found in conventional deodorants and antiperspirants. However, it is extremely important to understand your ingredients, especially when making handcrafted DIY body products. Essential oils can be potent and their safe use must rely on factors such as concentration, formulation and individual skin sensitivities.
Many consumers want to know, what are the potential health risks associated with common chemicals found in commercial deodorants.
Aluminum and triclosan are common ingredients found in many conventional deodorants and antiperspirants, and they play distinct roles. Aluminum compounds are often used in antiperspirants rather than deodorants and function by blocking sweat ducts and reducing sweat which helps to control body odor that thrives in moist environments.
Aluminum's role in antiperspirants has been a subject of debate and concern. Some studies have suggested a potential link between aluminum exposure and health issues such as breast cancer and Alzheimer's disease. However, research findings remain inconclusive and further studies are needed to establish a causal relationship.
Triclosan is an antimicrobial agent widely used in personal care products(1), including deodorants and antiperspirants, soaps and toothpaste among other household items. Technically, its function in deodorant is to reduce body odor by destroying bacteria. Some studies have pointed to its contribution to skin cancer after long-term use in animals. Others indicate its connection to antibiotic resistance and even hormonal balance disruption. The FDA is currently taking measures to restrict or ban its use in certain products.
Many consumers seek natural and safer alternatives for personal care to avoid potentially harmful chemicals. Natural and aluminum-free deodorants use ingredients for sweat and odor control such as baking soda, arrowroot powder, essential oils and natural carrier oils.
So just how can essential oils serve as effective antimicrobials in natural deodorants? Essential oils have been thoroughly researched and are effective antimicrobial agents and an admirable choice as ingredients in DIY products. With natural plant properties that function as antibacterials and antifungals, essential oils such as Lavender, Tea Tree, Cypress and Lemon can not only help you smell your best, but more importantly, inhibit the growth of odor-causing bacteria on the skin. When incorporated into natural deodorants, these essential oils not only help to combat odor-causing microbes but also provide a pleasant aroma without relying on synthetic fragrances.
Tea Tree, Eucalyptus and Lavender oil contain compounds such as terpenes that can disrupt bacterial cell membranes, interfere with their metabolic processes and ultimately inhibit their growth. For example, terpinen-4-ol, a compound found in Tea Tree has been shown to possess antifungal properties that help to combat fungal growth on the skin. Thus making these oils a great natural alternative to commercial deodorants.
Let’s dive a little deeper into what studies and research show about the link between aluminum and disastrous health problems.
Why is making a DIY deodorant a healthier and more sustainable choice? If you have ever read a product ingredient label, you may not be able to pronounce everything. Furthermore, when you make DIY products, not only can you sterilize and reuse glass containers and jars, keeping trash out of a landfill, but you can also have control over the ingredients. This allows you to test out recipes and ingredients and adjust them to your liking.
From deodorant to room sprays and natural perfumes, Edens Garden invites you to take control of your health and put to use safe and more effective plant-based ingredients. Save money and get creative all the while helping the Earth in the process.
It’s effortless to craft DIY essential oil products and making deodorant is a great place for a beginner to start. The DIY recipe below uses a very simple blend of skin-nourishing Shea Butter and carrier oils like Jojoba and Fractionated Coconut.
Jojoba mimics the skin’s natural sebum balance and can brighten the complexion of the skin. Fractionated Coconut oil is as odorless oil, as it is light. Easily absorbed into the skin, it won't clog pores and makes a great addition to many homemade blends from massage oils to oil-based perfumes.
2 oz Shea Butter
2 Tbsp Arrowroot Powder
1 Tbsp Jojoba or Fractionated Coconut carrier oil
16 drops of Tea Tree essential oil
14 drops of Lavender essential oil
10 drops of Lemon essential oil
4 oz Glass Jar or Cardboard Tube

Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts renowned for their aromatic properties and therapeutic potential. Derived from various botanical sources, these oils capture the essence of plants, offering many benefits for the mind, body, and soul.
You don't have to take our word for it when we say essential oils work. Let's look at some of the latest studies on essential oils.
Understanding the physiological and neurological mechanisms behind essential oils' effects is key to comprehending their therapeutic potential. Essential oils contain chemical compounds that interact with our bodies in profound ways. When inhaled or applied topically, these volatile compounds enter the bloodstream and travel to various organs, eliciting physiological responses. For instance, the aroma of Lavender oil stimulates the limbic system, the brain's emotional center, triggering the release of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which induce feelings of relaxation and well-being.
Similarly, the menthol in Peppermint oil activates cold-sensitive receptors, producing a cooling sensation and alleviating discomfort. Furthermore, certain compounds in essential oils possess antimicrobial properties, fighting off pathogens and bolstering the immune system. By tapping into these intricate pathways, essential oils exert a holistic influence on our bodies, promoting balance, vitality, and overall health.
At Edens Garden, we prioritize purity and quality in every drop. Our extensive selection of essential oils undergoes rigorous testing to ensure unparalleled potency and efficacy, assuring you of authentic and therapeutic oils.
Harnessing the power of aromatherapy through diffusers unlocks a myriad of benefits. Whether you seek to create a serene atmosphere for better sleep or uplift your mood during stressful times, our essential oil diffuser blends cater to your holistic well-being.
From Lavender essential oil known for its calming effects to the refreshing scent of Lemon oil and the stimulating properties of Peppermint oil, our diverse range of essential oils addresses various wellness needs, promoting harmony and balance in your life.
While essential oils offer numerous benefits, it's essential to use them responsibly. Always dilute with carrier oils before topical application to prevent skin irritation, and perform a skin patch test to rule out allergic reactions.
Experience the transformative power of essential oils as you embark on a holistic wellness journey. Embrace the essence of nature and elevate your daily rituals with our premium selection of essential oils and blends.
The question "Do Essential Oils Really Work?" finds its answer in the wealth of scientific research and centuries-old practices. With a commitment to quality, purity, and efficacy, Edens Garden Essential Oils invites you to discover the profound benefits of nature's botanical treasures and embark on a holistic wellness journey like never before.
With its origin dating back to the 14th century in Asian countries of Japan and Korea, double cleansing was used to benefit healthy skin and aid removal of the heavy white paint-like makeup that was traditionally worn by women(1,2,3). Fast forward to the modern day, this process of cleansing continues to assist in balancing facial sebum production and makes it easier to remove residue from makeup, sunscreen and pollutants without drying out the skin.
Double cleansing of the face began gaining traction in the United States within the past five years following the trend of Korean beauty skin care routines. It is said to bring on a healthy glow and has the potential to balance sebum and oil production on the face(4). This cleansing process has two phases. The first uses an oil-based cleanser to assist in removing waterproof makeup, sunscreen, dead skin cells and any accumulated environmental pollutants without stripping the face of its natural oils. The second step involves applying a water-based cleanser to remove any excess oil from the skin.
Double Cleansing is suitable for all skin types, especially those wearing waterproof makeup and sunscreen daily. However, attention should be paid to using a water-based cleanser that is best suited for each skin type. (For cleansing carrier oils, please continue reading further in the blog.)
The goals and benefits of double cleansing(5) are to restore vitality to your skin with a brighter more luminous glow as well as to remove impurities, clear away excess sebum and makeup, purify clogged pores, exfoliate dead skin cells and pollutants at the end of the day to leave you with resilient, glowing skin.
The best carrier oils for double cleansing are gentle and effective and won't strip the skin of its natural oils. Below is a chart that lays out the best carrier oils for your skin type. Whether you want to use a single carrier oil or blend carrier oils for this stage is up to you. Be sure to always test new products on the inner arm and wait 24 hours before using them on a larger area to rule out skin sensitivities. It may take a little trial and error to find the oil you love best. Here are our favorites according to skin type:
If you desire to go a step further to add some essential oils to your carrier oil, water-based cleanser or post-cleansing hydrating cream, there are some spectacular essential oils for all skin types to reduce inflammation and redness, fight bacteria that cause acne and even add hydration to bring a warm glow to the skin.
Adding essential oils to these products is easy. Keep in mind the correct dilution for the face (1-2% maximum) and blend according to skin type. It is always best to start with unscented products when adding essential oils. As with carrier oils, when using new essential oils, always test them on the inner arm and wait 24 hours. If there is no skin reaction, you are good to go.
Essential oils for rejuvenating and age-defying blends include Carrot Seed, Frankincense and Lavender. Some other appropriate facial essential oils include:
*Lemon essential oil is phototoxic. When using it on sun-exposed skin, please keep its dilution in blends below 1% per ounce to avoid sunburn or swap it out for Edens Garden Lime essential oil.

]]>In 1980s Japan, Tomohide Akiyama coined the term “forest bathing”, known in Japanese as Shinrin-yoku. Japanese forest bathing is a practice of nature therapy that began in response to the negative effects of depression and overall mental health(1). It is a technique of observing and spending time in nature to stimulate the senses to bring calm and quiet to your mental state. Simply closing your eyes and listening to its sounds brings on deeper breath that in turn releases tension and stress and stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system and the vagus nerve.
Shinrin-yoku surfaced as a preventative health care and scientific findings have illuminated what we innately already know, that the natural world brings positive effects, is good for the soul (and the brain) and has a multitude of health benefits that not only offers stress reduction and reduced cortisol levels but also improve happiness, well-being and cognition(2). Even the alchemist Paracelsus stated, “The art of healing comes from nature, not the physician”(3).
The therapeutic results of many promising studies include(4):
For example, in 2019 a small study(1) in Japan took workers who complained of stress and fatigue, some with and some without depressive tendencies and measured their blood pressure and pulse rate, mood states and other autonomic functions. After a day in the forest, every one of the participants experienced improved blood pressure and emotional states, but the largest improvement was with those who had depressive tendencies. In another study cardiac patients(1) spent only 30 minutes in nature and all of the participants gained overall improvement in cardiac function. A larger study in Japan followed nearly 500(1) residents suffering from acute and chronic stress. Using meditation and relaxation techniques in forest environs, salivary cortisol levels significantly decreased thereby improving instances of anxiety and stress and bettering self-esteem.
Another reason to get out to nature and throw your shoes aside is that new research is pointing to the possibility that connecting to the electrical conductivity of the earth’s surface may regulate different functions within the body(5). This practice of simply walking barefoot on the earth's surface whether dirt, sand or grass is called “earthing” or “grounding.” Studies have reflected earthing’s ability to improve sleep and mood, along with reducing pain, inflammation, and stress(6,7). This has prompted new research into the effect of earthing on mood and mental health and results so far have been promising(8).
Aromatic plants have been used throughout history to support one’s health and diet and exercise have been touted as the building blocks of well-being for decades, but one fairly new, holistic modality that can better one’s mental health is called Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). Using similar concepts to that of acupuncture, EFT involves stimulating acupressure points. EFT, though still novel, has shown promising results in reducing anxiety, depression, and PTSD(9). This method can be learned here.
What happens when you cannot take the time or have the means to get out to nature? Our suggestion … bring nature indoors with the power of essential oils to improve mental and physical health. Whether you need a few minutes of rest from work or circumstances are simply overwhelming your life, essential oils are a breath of fresh air for use during a yoga or meditation wellness session. Clinical studies have shown that essential oils can encourage relaxation, productivity, memory, happiness, fearlessness, and more(10).
The use of essential oils with their origins in the forest include Spruce- Black, Cypress, Pine- Scots, Fir- Douglas and Fir- Balsam. All are exceptional in mediating the aromatics of the forest air. Each one of these essential oils is made from branches, leaves, twigs or needles and whether combined with other essential oils or used singly is especially helpful for opening the breath and supporting the respiratory system. Read more about Spruce- Black and Cypress- Italian essential oils on the respective blog posts.
Other benefits and varying abilities of the above oils are:
These oils can be added to easy-to-carry essential oil inhalers, added to essential oil jewelry or made into an essential oil roll-on for on-the-go use. At home or in the office, diffuse them with any one of Edens Garden magnificent diffusers.
To truly convey yourself into a calming environment whether indoors or outdoors, we highly recommend turning off all devices. If indoors consider diffusing Edens Garden lofty blends of Forest Fresh or Winter Wonderland. Find a comfortable place to relax, close your eyes and picture the protective blankets of moss on the forest floor and be humbled by the stately trees while you deepen your breath and take in these earthly aromatics.

Embarking on a personal journey to discover one’s signature scent using essential oils is somewhat akin to going on a treasure hunt; one that involves exploration and experimentation. The big question is, how do you identify essential oils that will resonate with your personal preferences? The answer lies in exploration and experimentation and while we all have our likes and dislikes, there is no wrong answer. The goals of aromatherapy to keep in mind are both to please the senses and to enhance well-being.
As you continue on this journey it is important to note what aromas you are drawn to - these may be the oils you need at that moment in time. Your job is to pay attention to emotions, mood changes and even physical sensations that may occur after smelling different essential oils. Noting these subtle emotions and sensations in an aromatic journal can be key to laying out your thoughts and reactions as you explore essential oils over time. Understanding your likes and dislikes is crucial to the sense of smell as is aromatic memory.
Enjoy the journey of exploration and discovery as you find your favorite pure essential oil blends. As you incorporate them into your wellness routine, always keep in mind that everyone's preferences and experiences with essential oils are unique and what works for you may not necessarily work for someone else.
Edens Garden is a trustworthy essential oil supplier that is dedicated to pure quality products never adulterated with additives. Totaling 181 single oils and 117 blends and counting, Edens Garden offers a huge range of essential oils to create a personalized fragrance and natural oil. Another benefit of Edens Garden is that we operate without the MLM structure, meaning we never have to pay out sellers in a pyramid scheme, keeping our essential oil products at market price.
Edens Garden has a huge range of pure essential oils with therapeutic benefits to experiment with. Whether you desire Samples, Singles, Discovery Sets or Essential Oil Blends, we have you covered. The Sampler Sets can be the perfect way to begin exploring essential oils when you are unsure of your likes and dislikes. The collection encompasses our range of single oils and blends. However, to create your signature scent, we suggest starting with Edens Garden Create Your Own Sampler Set and the single oils Sampler Set both of which give the option to choose the combination of oils that fit your exact needs.
Now that you have your exploration oils, it's time to make your signature scent. Whether you need oils to uplift, soothe, energize, or decrease stress, the steps below will help you achieve a harmonious and balanced blend.
When first starting with essential oils, it’s a great idea to simplify a blend by focusing on three oils. Let’s begin by exploring the concept of top, middle and base notes - adhering to a 20-50-30 blend structure, respectively, is also recommended.
Blending oils can truly transform a single oil and no matter which oils you fancy, choose one from each category and uncap them. Bring those 3 bottles together and waft their combined aroma under your nose. Swap out one oil at a time to compare the notes and sensations you experience until you find a combination you like. Creating essential oil blends is part science and part art. Don't be afraid to experiment and trust your instincts as you craft your unique blends.
As you become more familiar with essential oils remember that it's not just about liking the aroma but about how it makes you feel.[1] Essential oils and aromatics are known to influence our moods and behavior.[2] Does Lavender or Bergamot calm any anxiety and relax you?[3] Does Peppermint invigorate your workouts or help you focus?[4] Does Cedarwood help in sedative blends?[5]
Keep your aromatic journal at hand and use these cues to guide your selection. When you are ready to put the oils together, pay attention to the number of drops you use of each oil and write your recipes down in your journal. Don't be afraid to adjust it based on your assessment of the blend. You may find that certain oils overpower others or that the balance needs to be corrected. Make small adjustments by adding or reducing drops of essential oils until you achieve the desired aroma and effect. Once you are satisfied, label your blend with the ingredients.
Understanding what oils resonate with you can be achieved through memory, preference and reactions as well as needs. Essential oils are extremely versatile especially when blended for a specific therapeutic purpose. Understanding your needs can be key to perfecting a blend. Begin by exploring what your daily routine is and how you react to your life. Do you experience a lot of stress? Are you an a-type personality and you want to be more grounded and slow down? Do you desire motivation and energy boost? Do you have respiratory health issues?
Another “signature scent” consideration is at what time of day the blend will be used. Perhaps it's a morning pick-me-up or a need for focus. In this case, we suggest exploring a combination of essential oils such as Lemon, Rosemary and Peppermint. For the evenings, you may want to make a child-safe* diffuser blend or a bath blend with calming oils such as Sweet Orange, Roman Chamomile and Sandalwood. To alleviate anxiety and improve mood, Bergamot, Cedarwood and Sweet Marjoram are exceptional choices.
*With toddlers and babies under the age of 2, essential oils are not recommended for use. Read this blog post for clarity on using essential oils safely with children. You can also peruse Edens Garden OK For Kids essential oil singles and blends.
Inspiring and sharing with others your experience with essential oils can influence others emotionally and sentimentally. Explaining and demonstrating what you have discovered and learned about essential oil blending can bring confidence to others. Bringing the enjoyment of sniffing different aromas will help them discover and recognize their preferences in the journey which is essential oils.
Stressing the uniqueness of each person’s aromatic preference and that a signature scent can emphasize individuality could lead others to pursue an essential oil blend that truly represents them and gives them strength knowing that it can distinguish them from the crowd.

The castor bean (Ricinis communis) has an exotic and varied history. Originally native to tropical East Africa surrounding Ethiopia, today it grows abundantly in tropical and subtropical places such as India and Brazil.[1] To extract the oil from the beans, the seeds must be extracted from the hull after first being washed, cooked and dried. The castor seeds are then ground and pressed to filter the oil from the seeds.
These seeds naturally contain a deadly poison called ricin that is removed from the oil during its cooking and refining process.[2] What makes Castor oil so attractive as a natural product is that it contains a unique fatty acid compound called ricinoleic acid. Depending on the oil and the plant’s growing conditions, this component is generally reliable at a 75-90% content and is mainly responsible for the laxative and relaxing effect on smooth muscle. Other important fatty acids found in Castor oil include oleic acid and other fatty acids such as linoleic, stearic and palmitic.[3]
The rich historical and medicinal use of Castor oil dates back to the discovery of its cultivation in Ancient Egypt from approximately 4000 B.C. The Egyptians used it for medicinal and skin care use as well as in lamp oil. From Egypt, the plant made its way through India where today it is still widely used as a natural purgative, remedy for constipation and skin issues in Ayurvedic medicine. From India, the plant also made headway into Ancient Greece and China. Today, the oil is used for many applications and as an ingredient including makeup, skincare, soaps and perfumes, for its apparent antimicrobial activity and as a lubricant. It’s also approved for use by the FDA as a stimulating laxative.[5]
Regardless, a multitude of viral TikTok videos can be found touting Castor oil benefits using a technique called “navel pulling”. Navel pulling or navel oiling is the act of massaging Castor oil into the belly button and around the abdomen in a clockwise direction which benefits the movement of digestion. These videos suggest Ayurvedic medicine as its source of proof that the use of the oil improves sleep, skin problems, hair loss, relieves pain and menstrual discomforts, detoxifies the liver, calms the mind, and more.[6]
Similar to using a nighttime wrap with a Castor oil pack, navel pulling has become a popular movement for its claims that it will bring health benefits such as relieving constipation, addressing digestive issues and being beneficial for painful menstrual cramps, cystic ovaries and endometriosis. TikTok videos demonstrate users gently rubbing or pouring a small amount of the oil into the belly button and massaging the oil onto the abdomen around the belly button. The argument for using this method is that it will benefit the many maladies listed above since according to Ayurveda, the belly button alone has approximately 72,000 nerve endings.
The gut, often referred to as the second brain, is part of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS). The Enteric Nervous System falls within the ANS and houses over 100 million nerve endings that control the gastrointestinal tract from the esophagus to the rectum.[7] The belly button, or rather the umbilicus, is supplied by the thoracic spinal nerve which innervates the skin and muscle around the waist.[8]
The belly button is scar tissue that forms from the cutting of the umbilical cord after birth. During pregnancy, the umbilical cord is a bundle of arteries and veins that provide essential oxygen and nutrients to the growing fetus and remove waste. After birth, the distal end of the umbilical artery[9] degenerates and transforms into structural ligaments such as the round ligament of the bladder.[10] Found within the abdominal cavity behind the belly button is a smooth lining called the parietal peritoneum which has sensory receptors that relay information via the nervous system. This area is innervated by the phrenic nerves which have sensitivity to pain, pressure, touch, friction, cutting and temperature.[11]
Abdominal massage is not a new concept for improving constipation and digestive issues. Massage therapy, even without Castor oil, can stimulate nerve endings and relax muscle tissue which in turn assists digestion, offers constipation relief and reduces bloating and gas. If you have constipation issues or if you would just like to make use of this trend, it may be best to put yourself and your abdominal muscles into a relaxed state by lying on your back with a yoga mat or on the floor with your knees raised and your feet flat on the ground. After getting comfortable, follow these steps:
Note: Castor oil is thick and dense and can stain clothing. To avoid stains, place a small towel between your belly and clothing when you have finished massaging the oil on your stomach until it has been absorbed by your skin.
*Grapefruit essential oil is phototoxic when skin is exposed to sunlight if used above a 1% dilution. For safer application when you know you will be in the sun, use instead Sweet Orange essential oil.
Beyond digestive benefits, research studies that back up the claims found on platforms like TikTok are sparse. Those that do exist, although promising, tend to be studies of very small groups. We hope to see more research studying the benefits of using Castor oil for gut health and detoxification, joint pain, sore muscles, inflammation, arthritis, skin & hair improvement, upset stomach, relief and a better night's sleep in the future. The question remains, does applying it to the belly button truly work for all these disorders? Considering its use throughout the millennia, Castor oil should not be discounted. As a natural product, Castor oil does seem to have many anecdotal benefits.
Some preliminary results from Castor oil research have shown promise for inflammation and pain reduction, better liver function, reduced cholesterol levels and immune system modulation of white blood cells.[12] However, to truly get to the bottom of Castor oil's many benefits and use in modern medicine [13] and make valid many of the claims touted on TikTok, we recommend keeping up to date with research studies that can be found online to discern the advantages of applying this oil.
Whether Castor oil and navel pulling address the claims is to be determined mainly through more extensive scientific research but can also be attained on a personal level. Take this with a grain of sand and research claims about products before using them. That being said, there is minimal harm in topically applying Castor oil. We suggest taking this opportunity to keep daily journal entries on your use of Castor oil, such as with digestion, sleep patterns, pain and inflammation, menstrual discomfort to discover how this product works for you.
In the modern search for natural alternatives to prescription drugs, we want to bring to your attention that there are some risks associated with their use. While we may get excited with trendy products, always err on the side of caution. For example, while Castor oil can be safe if used correctly and carefully as a topical agent, its internal use may cause abdominal discomfort and pain, cramping, nausea and diarrhea which can lead to overall weakness.[12] Always feel free to consult your medical doctor for advice.
For topical use, there are a few things to keep in mind. The first is to avoid using Castor oil directly on open lesions or irritated skin. Second, as with any new products and oils in your supply, we always recommend a skin patch test. Before applying it to a larger area, place a small amount of the product on the inner arm of the skin and wait 24 hours to rule out skin sensitivities such as swelling, itching and skin rash.[14] If skin becomes red, itchy or irritated, it would be best to avoid using it.
There are circumstances where some people may be tempted to use Castor oil directly in the eyes. This can be dangerous and lead to bacterial infections, blocked tear ducts and vision problems. If you have eye issues, please see your ophthalmologist.[4]
Concerning pregnancy and breastfeeding, after consulting a midwife on the use of Castor oil while pregnant, during labor or breastfeeding, she advised to avoid it during this time especially during labor since it may affect smooth muscle tissue. During labor, it has the potential to stimulate contractions and cause digestive and intestinal contraction which can make labor a little more messy than it normally is. With anything new and unfamiliar, it is best to use them in moderation.
Castor oil has widespread use in traditional Ayurvedic medicine to treat many issues including constipation, worms, rheumatism and arthritis as well as muscle tension and pain from lumbago. Taken internally, it is believed to balance the doshas of Vata and Kapha due to its affinity to be hot, potent and penetrating.[14] However, when applied topically, It is considered to be cooling and rejuvenating with favorable anti-aging qualities.[15] In traditional Chinese medicine, Castor oil's topical use is believed to move stagnation in the body which would aid inflammation and benefit pain relief.
Due to its thick nature, it may take time for it to be absorbed through the skin to assist digestion.[16] If desired it can be blended with another less viscous carrier oil at a 1:1 ratio that has a high makeup of fatty acids such as Apricot Kernel or Grapeseed oil to make it easier to apply and be absorbed.
With Castor oil's load of essential fatty acids, it is easy to discern that it contains anti-inflammatory properties that are beneficial for the body topically and internally when absorbed through the skin. Therefore, applying Castor oil has plenty of potential to assist digestion, smooth and moisturize skin, and possibly reduce dandruff when used on the scalp. As for visible results, the application of Castor oil can benefit skin issues and offer softer and smoother skin.
As far as personal accounts, after using Castor oil on the abdomen whether with overnight wrap applications or navel pulling, some have stated that their sleep improved immediately and they have noticed improved gut health and reduced constipation followed soon after. Others have said that pain has decreased and that they feel more energetic. Another user who suffers from Type 1 diabetes, applies it topically on repeat insulin injection sites of their lower abdomen to reduce lipohypertrophy - instances where a build-up of fat, protein and scar tissue occurs.

From the time we are born, smell plays a crucial and relevant role throughout our lives. Did you know that babies have such a keen sense of smell(2) that it helps them bond with their mothers? Aromas recalled from childhood and memorized throughout our lives, whether good or bad, can have an impact on our emotions and aromatic preferences(3). These same fragrances can evoke memories(4) and even impact behavior and mood.
To understand your significant others (SO) aromatic preference, remember that these answers lie within the boundaries of personal inclination. Aromatic memory, body chemistry and pheromones(5) play a huge role in likes and dislikes. To discern the preference of your SO, begin by exploring and paying attention to the aromas they already use. Does your SO tend to use the same deodorants or do they like to switch it up? Do they use body creams, aftershaves or room sprays? Your job is to take the time to research the products' key aromatics then put your diffuser to work using single oils, one at a time, and note if they comment on the aroma or nudge them a little by stating whether you like it or not.
Another tactic is to simply ask, “What do you like to smell?” They may be unsure but you can offer a few descriptors without getting too detailed so that you don't influence their response such as woody, fruity, spicy, herbal, floral, sweet. Once you have a lead, it’s easy to narrow down which oils your SO might like. If they’re not sure at all what they like, pull out a few oils that fall into each of the above categories and let them sample your inventory of oils every now and again. This makes a great starting point and helps them decide which oils suit them.
There are a number of reasons to choose essential oils to relieve common ailments. Some examples include:
There are many more reasons but no matter the root of the problem, we can say with certainty, there is an oil for that!
When you go about your day, wait for the opportune moment to introduce and suggest to your SO the use of essential oils. Give them a chance to be curious and ask questions. Share with them moments some of your favorite essential oils, letting them smell them straight from the bottle. If they prefer not to use oils at the moment, it's best not to push too hard and instead to wait for the next opportunity or a new ailment to arise before offering another remedy.
Often, when attempting to convince another person to incorporate something new into their life, it's best to give them a choice or to give them a chance to make the idea their own. Recalling a scene in the film, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, the wife explains to the daughter that her father may be the head of the family but the wife is the neck that turns the head to look in certain directions.
Below are several creative and enjoyable ways to introduce essential oils to your significant other:
Being patient and supportive will be one of the most effective ways in your arsenal to convince your SO to try essential oils. Always remember that no one likes to be told what to do - it's best to gently suggest and offer guidance and practice patience rather than be overeager or overbearing.
Sharing personal stories of your transition into the use of essential oils from newbie to enthusiast can be a great place to start. Perhaps there is an oil that you have grown to love for a particular reason you can share that has helped you on your healing journey. Take the gradual approach and give them choices. By offering choices, they will feel more in control. Also never use essential oils on anyone without their consent.

While we go about our mid-winter days, viruses are all around us in the air and on surfaces. Currently, variants[2] of COVID-19, RSV, Flu, Rhinovirus, Croup, Whooping Cough, Coxacki and others are waiting for the chance to make you their next meal. What can we do about it? For starters, we can be sure to wash our hands often and we can utilize dynamic antiviral essential oils.
Essential oils are made up of phytochemicals. These phytochemicals from medicinal plants help to protect the plants themselves from the nature of insects and microbes as well as UV rays and so it's no surprise that their essential qualities are useful to us, especially with antiviral activity. These same phytochemicals not only give them their stunning and sublime aromatics, the power to modulate mood and the effectiveness to act as antivirals and antimicrobials.[3] According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), there are a few suggested pathways by which antiviral essential oils can combat viruses.
In the case of SARS-CoV-2, the fatty (lipophilic) nature of some essential oil components have the potential to penetrate and disrupt the membrane of a virus, disintegrating it.[4] Certain components that make up essential oils may also disrupt and inhibit key proteins of viruses by “docking” into their membrane structure[5] - like how a key fits into a lock to open it. Other oils can block the replication cycle during a viral infection.[6] While many studies conducted to date use in vitro or mice for testing, essential oils continue to show promise and induce positive effects during multiple stages of viral infection.
The even better news is that there are a multitude of essential oils to choose from that have an antiviral effect. The important step, however, is figuring out which oils to use for a particular virus since they are not one-size-fits-all.[7] Several components of antiviral essential oils are inclined to demonstrate the dexterity of inhibiting one or two types of viruses, rather than a slew of them.
Studies have noted constituents such as Limonene and Citronellol as effective against viral replication of SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19,[4] noting the use of Lemon and Geranium. Other oils that contain these same constituents include Lemongrass and other Citrus oils such as Grapefruit, Lime and Sweet Orange. Other components with antiviral activity that contain a gentler nature and aromatic are terpinen-4-ol, γ-terpinene found in Tea Tree, d-Limonene found abundantly in citrus oils which also boost the immune system and Linalool found in Basil, Bergamot Mint, Geranium, Lavender, Clary Sage, Ho Wood and Rosalina.
Some constituents recommended for ages 10+ include, 1,8 cineole,[8] found in Eucalyptus- Globulus,[9] Laurel Leaf, Ravintsara, Rosalina and Rosemary is also anti-inflammatory and assist in expanding the breath and opening up the bronchial tubes when congested from a viral infection. Moreover, antimicrobial and antiviral components best used sparingly in a blend due to their potency include thymol, carvacol, eucalyptol, menthol and eugenol found in Thyme, Oregano, Eucalyptus oil, Peppermint and Clove respectively.[5]
Online research studies are a valuable resource when searching for a particular virus and the compounds that are effective against it. Concerning whichever virus that one is battling or warding off, blends can be adjusted accordingly. For example, essential oils of Cinnamon, Bergamot, Lemongrass, Thyme and Lavender exhibit antiviral properties against Influenza type A.[3] When making a blend for this virus, you may want to include all of these oils keeping Cinnamon at a 1% dilution in the blend.
For blends to clean the home from a Covid Infection or other viruses that may be airborne and lurk on surfaces, you may consider making yourself a DIY cleaning spray with a few of the following antiviral oils such as Tea Tree,[10] Citrus oils, Clary Sage, Copaiba, Eucalyptus, Laurel Leaf, Lemongrass, Sweet Marjoram, Peppermint, Ravintsara, Rosemary and Spruce oils are also known antivirals.
Essential oils are especially versatile and can be used in any number of ways to support health during cold and flu season. As mucolytics, bronchial dilators, immune modulators and to improve immune function, essential oils are a great resource during colder months.

Happiness can't be bought or sold, but we can find our own optimism, and if possible, pay it forward by bringing that same joy to others.
It's necessary to strive for happiness and positivity because simply, it is good for our health. Let’s imagine for a moment what the perfect day means to each of us. Most likely many different things. Perhaps the sun glaring overhead giving off the perfect temperature – warm without being overbearingly hot. Perhaps for many of you this includes a day free of work commitments or anyone needing anything from you. Just as important is striving for these same feelings of happiness and positivity daily, regardless of responsibility.
Being in a positive state of mind does a lot of good for the brain and the body. Being happy lightens mood and helps to lower stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol which can cause damage by oxidative stress throughout the body. A willingness to seek out positivity eases anxiety and lowers the chances of becoming depressed. These same constructive outlooks can even boost and invigorate the immune system. Essential oils can help bolster this positivity and beneficial perspective.(1)
Using plant medicine and aromatherapy for its therapeutic benefits goes back through the ages. Modern medicine has found that aromatic molecules directly affect the emotional brain through the olfactory nerves when the molecules are inhaled. If you linger on childhood memories for a moment, especially regarding the sense of smell, what comes to mind? Could it be cookies baking in the oven? Is it a local flower patch or the roses in your backyard? Perhaps it's the honeysuckle wall you passed every spring day on your way to and from school. Whatever the aroma, the memory triggers a joyful response. The simple act of smiling in and of itself sends signals to the brain which releases chemicals to brighten mood and fight stress.(2)
A Happy Day is a blend made with pure essential oils and we consider it our smile in a bottle. It was formulated purposely with citrus essential oils as its fundamental leading role further encouraged by the tenderness of florals and grounding oils. The combined aroma imparts a citrus-forward, joyful and light atmosphere. Citrus trees and their fruit are the embodiment of sunshine. Growing in the warmth of climates found close to the equator, citrus fruits absorb the sun daily and bring us their fruit amid winter, just when that lightness is needed the most. Floral oils tend to the heart, awarding strength, beauty and perseverance. Grounding oils promote relaxation and diffuse anxiety and open the lungs for deeper breathing.
The aromatics and health benefits of this blend start with its top notes of citrus which encapsulate this blend's essence with Sweet Orange, Lemon, and Grapefruit essential oil. They are fortified and strengthened by florals of Geranium and Neroli while grounding oils of Gurjun Balsam, Vetiver and Osmanthus round out the blend with resilience and backbone. Let's peak at a few singular oils in A Happy Day that are worth an honorable mention.
When inhaling A Happy Day essential oil blend, our limbic system or emotional brain is foremost affected which can change our behavioral responses including motivation and stress levels. Think about when you are stressed. Are you holding your breath? Is your diaphragm clenched?
Let’s experiment. Inhale deeply 4-5x by diffusing or sniffing, straight from the bottle, citrus oils such as Lemon and floral essential oils such as Neroli or Geranium. Close your eyes and give the oils a few minutes to flow through your body. After that time has passed, what has happened? Have you relaxed and do you sense an ability to let go? Can you breathe deeper? You most likely feel lighter, less weighted and your energy and mindset have improved. Keep breathing deeply and slowly.
When we are stressed and tense, our respiration becomes altered and constricted and we tend to hold our breath. This physical propensity activates the limbic system and prompts feelings of fear and anxiety. These emotions signal our body to release stress hormones that activate the fight or flight response - even if there is no threat to one’s life. The surge of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline can lead to negative emotional responses such as anxiety and depression.(5)
Essential oils work upon these same neuropathways to calm the body and mind in part due to the bright aromatics of the oils coming into contact with your olfactory receptors. But this calming pathway also is alerted by the dominant d-limonene component of citrus essential oils as well as floral compounds of linalool, linalyl acetate, citronellol and geraniol. These components have been well studied in scientific environments for their active ability to calm the mind and body, energize and enlighten mood and reduce anxiety, stress and depression.(6,7)
As part of Edens Garden's expanding line of seasonal blends, A Happy Day is already gaining traction among our EG family. One reviewer writes, “Finally a blend that the citrus comes through!” It reminds her of Clinique's Happy perfume without the synthetic chemicals. She continues that when diffused, she receives many comments about its freshness from co-workers. Another reviewer loves it for its bright, very slightly floral and citrusy aromatics.
Like many of Edens Garden Seasonal Blends, there are several uses and times during the day to put A Happy Day essential oil blend to work. In the morning, it will ground the user while bringing sunshine and energetic positivity while in the afternoon and evening, it will help release the tension from the day. Try our many EG Seasonal Blends in the same way!
A Happy Day is nature in a bottle at its best. Used in a diffuser it imparts a clean, refreshing and bright atmosphere that can be used for both personal benefit and to create a harmonious environment that will boost feelings of friendship and cooperation. Whether used in the home, during gatherings and special occasions or for work events, this lively burst of citrus florals and grounding oils will improve kindness between people from all walks of life. The best thing is that using aromatherapy and engaging the sense of smell, especially in shared spaces, can lock in emotional memories of special times that people will carry with them all their lives, continuing a sense of togetherness even if they happen to be miles apart.
Just a few degrees of warming in the last decade or two are responsible for an enlarging and growing habitat for pests. Bugs such as mosquitos, ticks, fleas, midges, flies and other biting insects tend to seek out conditions and climates that serve them and unfortunately for us, carry a bigger risk of disease. In many regions of the world including the United States, people are facing a growing threat from insect-borne diseases such as West Nile virus, Dengue fever, Malaria, Zika, Lyme disease and a growing concern over the spread of parasitic leishmaniasis carried by sand flies. (2,3,4)
However, there is a brighter side to this vulnerability in utilizing certain plant-based essential oils to assist and protect us from insect bites when we venture outdoors and in the thick of nature. For those of us who would prefer to avoid synthetic products, we have a safe and effective solution for you to avoid those pesky insects.
Spending time outdoors encourages us to unite and deepen our existence with nature. It helps us breathe deeper, reduces stress and anxiety and can bring us closer to family and friends. It also plays a hand in getting us off devices and resets our circadian rhythm so that we can sleep better. But for many, avoiding activities in the outdoors is easy to justify if only to avoid the irritation and itching that can come with it.
Thankfully there are options with natural ingredients so that we can out and stretch our legs without fearing pests. Repellents help keep mosquitoes and other biting insects away from our skin and are defined as products that hinder biting insects from biting or even landing on our skin by disrupting and confusing their odor sensors and attractants such as lactic acid and carbon dioxide. (1) There are two categories of repellents, synthetic and plant-based.
Commercial repellents come with synthetic chemicals such as DEET and picaridin which many people prefer not to use for several reasons. While they can stave off mosquitoes and other biting insects, there are concerns about their use. Health risks include rashes and skin irritation, especially in children, as well as environmental factors such as runoff into streams and the chemicals getting into our groundwater supply. (1)
For these reasons, essential oils have been widely considered as an alternative to synthetics due to their low toxicity to both humans and their ease of unifying with the environment. Many studies target certain components of essential oils such as terpenes like citronellol, eucalyptol and linalool. These compounds work by preventing insects from detecting odors that attract them in the first place. (5)
The natural ingredients are innately powerful due to the aromatics and compounds found in essential oils. Bug Bite Relief essential oil blend, formerly known as Repel, targets these particular components that confuse biting insects to enhance your outdoor experience at any time of day. Plus, this blend at a 1-2% dilution is safe for use with children over the age of 2. For adults, we recommend a higher dilution between 3-5%.
Bug Bite Relief is a powerhouse in the realm of protecting yourself and your loved ones from biting pests when outdoors. From Ylang Ylang, Nootka Tree, Lemon Eucalyptus, and Cedarwood to the fixative Vanilla, every oil in this blend has a component or two with aromatics that work diligently to repel and confound insects!
Besides the fact that many of these oils will boost mood and relieve stress, these oils contain the terpenes mentioned above such as linalool and citronellol. For example, Ylang Ylang has linalool as well as geranyl acetate. Linalool repels insects by confusing their odor receptors and Geranyl acetate not only repels these same insects but also attaches to lipids (fatty tissue) giving the oil blend more durability on the skin, helping the repellent to last longer. Lucky for us, the most compelling way to make essential oils more effective as a repellent is to combine several plant oils to work in unison. (1,6)
Here are other highlights of this superb blend:
As you may know, essential oils are highly volatile and if not blended properly can dissipate after a short time when exposed to air. This suggests that EOs won't last as long when applied to the skin as commercially available DEET or picaridin insect-repellent products. However, these synthetic products can come with side effects, especially with younger children and can cause irritations to the eyes, skin rashes, nausea and in worse case scenarios, possible nervous system interactions. (1,13,14)
To keep your family safe from biting insects including ticks and avoid the side effects of commercially synthetic products, we suggest extending the life of essential oil repellents by diluting them with carrier oils. Some carrier recommendations include skin-loving Jojoba, Grapeseed and Almond oils. Research suggests that mixing repellent essential oils with a product like Vaseline (1) helped to keep the volatile essential oils active for a longer time period. Instead of using petroleum-based products, we suggest instead to try your hand at making an easy and skin-safe DIY salve with Bug Bite Relief or other Outdoor blends from Edens Garden.

DIY Bug Spray
Although you may have to reapply this more than an oil-based product, a DIY bug spray can also be used on the hair and clothing.
There are so many positive testimonials from users of Bug Bite Relief. Melanie in Florida adds that being outside can be unbearable, leaving bites, itchiness, pain and discomfort that can last for weeks. After applying this oil blend for the first time she was amazed to realize she was not getting bitten at all and compared to other oil blends she tested, this was and is the best product she has ever used to keep bugs away.
Sherri, another user based in Vermont stated that as a mosquito magnet, she makes her own DIY body spray with Bug Bite Relief oil blend, witch hazel and water (recipe above) and is not at all affected by biting insects. She even applies a drop to her palms and runs it through her hair to keep deer flies at bay adding that Bug Bite Relief to her is “gold.”
For its strength against pests, using and making your own plant-based products also protects the environment! Here is how:

For those of us in supporting roles, we need to remember to keep understanding and empathy in our hearts and encourage those we love to seek the help they need. Instead of jumping to conclusions, especially when we don't understand what another person may be going through, we should remember that some people may have a difficult time communicating their feelings. Forgiving, healing and loving are key elements in supporting those who need it to feel safe and find trust among those who love them.
For people struggling with emotional trauma, managing symptoms can be particularly challenging since there is generally an expectation for everyone to be content and joyful. But when emotional trauma is unresolved, negative sentiments and depression can have a significant impact on family gatherings by straining relationships and potentially leading to tension and conflicts. The presence of those who played a role in any past trauma may also set off triggers that will affect the overall dynamics of social and familial functions. (1,2,3)
In anticipation of revisiting old trauma, an elevation of anxiety and stress in these individuals can lead to a deluge of feelings overwhelming one's fragile state of mind. In turn, this may initiate intense reactions such as outbursts or even withdrawal and dissociation. Trauma may also present itself physically with headaches, stomach upset and sleep issues. (1,2,3)
When faced with unresolved issues, the sufferer can lead a life of persistent negativity. This adversity may render itself in any number of ways emotionally including pain, anger, hate, hurt, resentment and bitterness. These sentiments may impact mental health, affect relationships and may even close those same people off from social networks. The essential oils in Forgiveness & Healing essential oil blend, formerly known as French Lavender Sage, can support emotional healing and bolster one’s resilience.
A well-rounded herbal and floral blend, Forgiveness & Healing has the perfect amount of Sage to give it an outdoorsy feel with hints of sweetness from Grapefruit and its florals such as Lavender oil round out the blend without being overpowering. It subtly composes those who use its aromatic prowess to wrap themselves with tranquility and calm. It has the knack of setting a stage for open discussions with friends and family while keeping tension down and minds calm. Forgiveness & Healing essential oil blend frames the courage needed to move past old grudges to lay out in the open any grievances to begin the healing process.
Facing past demons and dealing with emotional trauma helps everyone involved to move forward in life. If there are family members at gatherings who do not understand another's experience, communication is broken down and confusion persists potentially leading to judgments that are in error. Addressing past trauma and healing emotional wounds can help those individuals confront their past so that they can move on from it, letting go of negative emotions such as anger, hatred and resentment. (4)
While it is important to note that essential oils do not replace mental health therapy for individuals with emotional trauma, aromatherapy does establish a positive environment that helps to support any emotion an individual may feel before and during gatherings with friends and family. Aromatherapy can be used at any time of the day for its calming effect and ability to ease anxiety disorder and stressful situations safely and effectively with a number of different methods.
Using Forgiveness & Healing essential oil blend when practicing meditation and mindfulness can help people emotionally prepare before an event that would generally bring up past trauma and exacerbate stress and anxiety disorders. Two prodigious exercises, journaling and art therapy, can be turned to at any point of the day or night to give those who have suffered through hardships the opportunity to convey opinions and feelings honestly and safely. (5)
The coupling of the pure therapeutic essential oils in Forgiveness & Healing essential oil blend helps us to let our guards down bringing a feeling of compassion, empathy and warmth to an environment. It is aromatically appealing with its combination of Sage, Lavender and Sweet Marjoram at the forefront which unite to stimulate the senses. This delightful blend of oils reassures the mind and helps ease the intensity of hardship and burdens while quelling agitation and providing stress relief.
Sage is known to purify and release negative energy paving forth a calm positive energy that allows the determination and spirit to begin a healing journey. Sweet Marjoram can help ease emotions and reduce stress while floral oils in this blend such as Lavender, Cistus and Damiana support emotional wellbeing by reducing negative feelings, letting go of old grudges and opening up the heart.
Grapefruit, Damiana and Cistus envelop the user with an elevated mood and better confidence while offering refuge from emotional pain. It is known among users for creating a calm environment while sparking joy and passion and most importantly, it accomplishes all of this by composing the mind, body and spirit in unity.

Essential oils are an excellent tool to support healing and create a constructive and harmonious environment for open discussion among family and friends. Transforming negative sentiments into positive ones can bolster the healing process for a united spirit and find equal footing to expand trust and compassion.
Compassion for yourself, self-awareness and self-love are keys to forgiveness and letting go of the past to move forward. Mindfulness practices include visualizations, breathing techniques, journaling and positive affirmations that help to release patterns of anxiety and stress that follow in the footsteps of old trauma. Studies have also suggested that concentrating on the present time rather than the past brings a positive outlook and improves health and well-being, promotes sleep and possibly helps handle pain. This coming holiday season let’s remember to reflect upon and honor our ancestors and always strive to be a better person with patience and understanding. Healing ourselves helps us to move forward paving a path of intergenerational healing which we owe to our children and their future. Turning to essential oil blends for support such as Forgiveness & Healing and other mood blends brings with it stress relief to bolster family wellness with compliance and enthusiasm, brightening outlooks for future family and social gatherings.
*NOTE: Forgiveness & Healing, due to its content of Sage essential oil, is contraindicated for use during pregnancy and nursing, especially in the first trimester - considered the most delicate period in pregnancy. We do not recommend using any essential oils around babies under the age of 2 years old as their systems are much more sensitive to the concentration of components found in essential oils. During this time we suggest opting instead for child-safe hydrosols.

Thanks to these strides, women now have increased educational opportunities, gender equality, economic independence and diverse career options. These same positive achievements have brought forth formidable and influential female role models. While challenges and disparities still exist in many countries women still have countless hurdles to overcome. However, one truly feminine issue will always be at our side that we must embrace fully - menstruation and menopause. The monthly reproductive cycle and its closing notes of menopause are a right of passage that includes PMS symptoms and is a natural part of life that can help us tap into the strength of our womanhood.
Everyone's experience with pain and moodiness of the menstrual cycle is different and to remove the stigma, we must shift the perspective about menstruation and PMS for an opportunity to celebrate womanhood. Bringing a positive perspective transforms what may seem like a burden into a source of strength and self-awareness. This can be done in several steps, including educating ourselves on our own cycle.
First, set aside a little time each month to write down any PMS symptoms such as moodiness or period pain or menopause symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats that arise and note how long each symptom lasts. This act helps us tune into our bodies and takes away any mystery. The second step is to allow time for self-reflection to reframe thoughts and bring self-compassion and positive-mindedness to the forefront. Third, self-compassion helps us embrace who we are leading to open communication where we can share this knowledge with support networks or with those we love to remove feelings of isolation. (2)
Lastly, once we constructively view what was originally seen as flaws, we have the opportunity to open ourselves to mindfulness practices - journaling, meditation, etc - leading to a more balanced life and menstrual cycle. This entire process helps to reduce the stress and anxiety that surrounds female reproductive cycles, leaving us happier and healthier.
For countless centuries, stigmas and myths surrounding menstruation affected a woman's physical and emotional well-being. Challenging these stigmas is a necessary step to promote menstrual health and proper hygiene. Stigmas and myths can include
Being a natural and essential part of the female reproductive system, it's important to promote an informed and supportive environment for all individuals experiencing menstruation. To break barriers, conducting sensitive educational campaigns to destigmatize myths and taboos that encircle the monthly reproductive cycle, there are other ways to support women's health and that’s with some specialized and pure essential oils. Essential oils can reduce pain and bring a positive and improved mental outlook during PMS and menstruation as well as during menopause.
A biological step in growth and maturation, menstruation and subsequently menopause, will forever be a part of the female reproductive cycle. Some women will sail through this process while others will face challenges and difficulties that are influenced not only by cultural norms but also by genetics, overall health and access to resources.
Women know all too well that the days leading up to a period can be accompanied by Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) and its own physical and emotional complaints. Menstruation for many women consists of days of pain and discomfort from cramping felt in the abdomen, pelvis and lower back. This cramping, aka dysmenorrhea, is derived from the Greek: dys (disordered or difficult), meno (month) and rrhea (discharge). It ranges in severity depending on a number of life circumstances. (3,4)
Other complaints of this cycle include fatigue, bloating, sore breasts, irritability and mood swings, headaches and even food cravings. Menstrual difficulties can have a psychological and emotional impact leading to stress, anxiety, and depression for many. (5,6)
As mentioned, stress and pain are major monthly complaints with menstruation and menopause. Stop Cramps Period essential oil blend, previously known as PMS Ease, contains specific essential oils that have proven themselves effective for monthly intervention to ease menstrual and menopausal symptoms as a low-cost treatment with limited side effects. Supporting women’s health, Stop Cramps Period is a 100% pure essential oil blend that is exceptional in its ability to relieve cramping, nausea, hot flashes and moodiness. Here is a breakdown of the oils in the blend and their indications:
Clary Sage in particular has been an aromatherapy oil with many in the scientific field studying it. It became known as a “women's oil” specifically to treat PMS symptoms such as moodiness. Sclareol, a component of this oil has been proposed to treat dysmenorrhea and inflammation by disrupting calcium signaling on uterine contractions. (14)
Another special note about Clary Sage oil is that it contains natural phytoestrogens, derived purely from the plant that may mimic estrogen, giving this aromatherapy oil the ability to help normalize hormone levels to even out monthly menses. In studies, potentially due to the antispasmodic properties of the oil, it has also been found to be effective as a topical treatment to reduce the intensity of menstrual cramping. (15)
The aromatic properties of this oil are immediately floral and fruity. Hints of spiciness from Ginger and a grounding, earthy quality from both Copaiba and Patchoili flow through on the back end of this aromatic oil blend giving an overall sense of ease, confidence and positivity regardless of the time of month. Palmarosa, perhaps an underutilized oil, has an herbal rosiness especially combined with Geranium and a talent for purification. The other floral and fruity oils of Lavender, Bergamot and Ylang Ylang set a tone to inspire a mood of relaxed satisfaction. Its easy to overlook some of the oils in this blend such as Carrot Seed and Fennel, but they are no less able when it comes to soothing rough moments and uplifting and stabilizing mentality.
Affordable, 100% natural and without the side effects of many over-the-counter medicines users can count on Stop Cramps Period essential oil blend to reset hormones and bring smooth sailing to your monthly cycle. With the pain and stress of this time under control, you can be the best you day in and day out no matter how much work you have on your plate!
Stop Cramps Period, its cousin Gal Pal and Edens Garden treasure trove of Women’s essential oil blends are worthy place to find essential oil blends for many of the up and down moments of life. We know each one of you is special with your own likes and dislikes which is why we suggest making notes of the oils and blends you love and how they help you day in and day out. This will help you recognize other blends you may want to try including from the Women’s collection.
There are two very effective ways to use Stop Cramps Period. Topically and Inhalation. Here are some of the tricks we like to employ when using this blend:
As a collective, it's important to break the stigma and the taboo of this natural part of life that all women experience. There is an excellent video from Dr. Laura Payne and published by McLean Hospital that is working to do just that. By continuing to reduce the shame and embarrassment around menses we can reduce disparities among women - better serving each other's needs in the realm of mental and physical health, especially among young adult women and teenage girls. (16)
There are countless reviews on the Edens Garden website signaling it as a “miracle in a bottle” for its ability to relieve debilitating menstrual cramps, especially with topical application over the lower abdomen. Other users find that using this blend on pulse points helps them keep going when they have no choice with young children by relieving pain from ovulation due to irregular cycles, endometriosis and hormone imbalances. For menopause, after a few days of consistent use stopped hot flashes in their tracks as no OTC or herbal supplements could do and helped her avoid taking hormone replacement therapy.
A first-time user of essential oils was very skeptical but decided to give it a go since her teenage daughter had terrible stomach pain and was a terrible sleeper. Stop Cramp Period not only helped quell her menstrual pain but kept her sleeping soundly through the night (and kept her from grinding her teeth.) She has become a true believer, building her “library” with Edens Garden 100% pure and natural essential oils.
Aromatherapy is not much different. Its natural use of plants however is built around the premise of creating homeostasis in the mind and body. Essential oils, made from naturally occurring and unadulterated plant material, pursue a way to manipulate internally those emotions and feelings and energy by dispensing therapeutic benefits such as reduced anxiety and stress and releasing tension to improve one's ability to relax. (2)
Edens Garden newest, pure essential oil blend Tonka & Wood, was formulated to manipulate negative feelings and create a positive atmosphere with its blissfully serene and inviting therapeutic plant aromatics.
With its fortification of woodsy aromatics, Edens Garden's new essential oil blend Tonka & Wood is calmly refreshing and gently invigorating while being exceptionally grounding. It is masculine and smoky with soft and subtle feminine sweetness imparting an introspective and amiable outdoorsy vibe.
Tonka & Wood essential oil blend nestles right in comfortably among the masculine collection of Edens Garden transformative essential oils perfection in a bottle for any gathering or relaxing evening with guests. Its woodsy notes will introduce a serene and forest-like ambiance and surround special moments with carefree ease. We have a really great sense that this essential oil blend will find its way to the top of the charts and due to its dualistic masculine and feminine natures, the aroma caters to all of us.
Essential oil blends typically “masculine” are generally made with wood and grounding oils and this blend has no shortage of them. Tonka & Wood oil blend captures the essence and strength of the majestic woods with an alluring aura. With one whiff from the bottle, the first notes to infiltrate the sense of smell are from the middle-top notes of Balsam and Douglass Fir oils. Just behind the fir oils, this blend's masculine side is strengthened by the grounding legs of Texas and Himalayan Cedarwood, Black Spruce, Juniper Berry and Cypress. These oils transport those who are fortunate to smell into the midst of a living forest and envelop a space in serenity - reducing anxiety while its hints of Peppermint enliven the senses. This masterpiece of a blend encapsulates the durability of trees while cleansing and stimulating the respiratory system to expand the breath and encourage the body and mind to release muscle tension. (3,5)
Hidden in its depths, the oils of Bergamot, Vetiver and Tonka Bean, often used in blends as aromatic fixatives and stabilizers, help to contribute to a flowing pliancy of mind and body. Sweet, citric, earthy and smoky, they are reinforced by the honeyed floral notes of Geranium oil, Vanilla and Jasmine. These tender feminine oils are important to Tonka & Wood oil blend in conveying its subtle delicacy and furthering its proclivity to calm the central nervous system, reducing tension and anxiety. It has an elegance that sets a positive tone and expands its breadth with suppleness and elasticity. These important oils are fundamental in setting the blend apart from other masculine blends with a slightly floral, fruity luxury rarely established in a blend. (4)
For men and women alike, Tonka & Wood has the tenacity to offer deep relaxation and melt away stress and worry. It has an affinity to relax tension in the muscles and deepen respiration. This blend is useful for sitting back with family or diffused on special occasions and gatherings, to set a warm, summery and sophisticated tone. As it deepens the breath, Tonka & Wood warms and elevates spirits while keeping energies balanced and subdued and creating inner peace. Diffuse it in the home to bring the outdoors in and make any gatherings and events more extraordinary and memorable.
To thoroughly enrich your environment and create an attractive and warmhearted ambiance, we highly suggest diffusing this blend. Using a nebulizing diffuser such as the Terrazzo allows for a number of intermittent settings where the machine turns on for the desired number of minutes and allows the device to turn off and then repeat the misting of the oils into a room. A more subtle way of infusing Tonka & Wood into a room is to use the Reed Diffuser. It is small and the wooden reeds and cap sit right on the essential oil bottle for ease of use. It is perfect for small spaces.
To reduce any worry and stress that may accompany social gatherings, set up the diffuser in an inconspicuous area of the main socializing room where guests will gather according to manufacturer instructions. As a suggestion, follow our general rule of adding 10 drops to 100 ml of water. Turn on your machine for a 30-60 minute period and then turn it off for an hour, turning it on again if needed. Otherwise, follow the intermittent setting instructions on the device if the machine allows for it.
There are a number of other ways to incorporate the natural ingredients of Tonka & Wood essential oil blend for daily self-care. Not only would this blend be beneficial for a spiritual connection during yoga and meditation practices but it's a must use with DIY projects. When adding this blend to topical products, please follow our dilution rate guide for blending into a carrier or unscented cream. Lastly, when testing out new oils, conduct a skin patch test to ensure against skin sensitivity or allergic reaction.
Combine water and unscented Castile soap at a 4:1 ratio in a foaming soap dispenser. Add 10 drops per ounce of liquid of Tonka & Wood essential oil blend and shake gently to combine the ingredients.
Making beard oil is as simple as diluting 15-18 drops of Tonka & Wood into a carrier oil. There are a number of carrier oils that are ideal for facial hair and skin health. Here are our picks:
Blend a 2-3% dilution (10-18 drops) into one ounce of carrier oil such as Jojoba oil or Grapeseed oil.
While the tub is filling up with warm, steamy water combine in a bowl 2 cups of Epsom salts (bonus: magnesium in the salts further alleviates muscle soreness and pain); ½ cup Baking Soda (to soften skin), and ½ cup Castile soap and 6 drops of Tonka & Wood essential oil. Mix the ingredients and swirl into the warm water and soak for 15-20 minutes.
If looking to expand your DIY skills, try Tonka & Wood with a homemade candle-making project.

Please keep in mind that is wise when using new oils to perform a skin patch test to rule out skin sensitivity or allergic reactions to oils never previously used.
One of the easiest methods of using essential oils for pain relief is topical application. This can be done by mixing a 3-5% dilution of Sore Muscles & Pain Ease directly into an unscented cream or by enriching it with pain-relieving carrier oils such as Hemp Seed oil, Grapeseed oil or an herb-infused anti-inflammatory carrier oil such as Arnica or Trauma oil. If you want a blend without the DIY project, find the roll-on version of this blend here.
Here is how to prepare it: place 18-30 drops of Sore Muscles & Pain Ease or other pain-specific essential oil blend for Massage into 1 oz of carrier oil mentioned above. Shake gently and massage the oil directly onto the area(s) of pain. Extend the healing power of these oils by applying a heating pad for 10 minutes over the area (more on this below.)
Another technique is to enjoy either a pain-relieving full-body bathtub immersion.
While the tub is filling up with warm, steamy water combine in a bowl:
Swirl the salt blend into the bathtub and let it dissolve before climbing in and resting for at least 15 minutes with calming music. Bonus: The magnesium naturally found in the salts helps to relieve muscle pain further.
For foot pain relief, blend ½ cup of Epsom salt with ⅛ cup of Baking Soda and 2 tablespoons of Castile soap and add 6 drops of Sore Muscles & Pain Ease blend or another Edens Garden Massage blend of your choice. Soak your feet for 15 minutes and pat them dry afterward. You can also try out Edens Garden special selection of salt bath blends and read all about them here.
Heating pads are an excellent combination therapy to enhance essential oils. Heat applications can be soothing, offer improved circulation and improve blood flow. This method also furthers the ability of essential oils to penetrate deeper into the skin and muscle tissue, providing more effective pain relief. Adding moist heat can even further comfort sore and painful areas. (17,18)
Following the directions above in massaging a diluted essential oil blend into a carrier oil of your choice, turn on your heating pad according to manufacturer instructions and at a safe and comfortable heat temperature. If interested, one added step is to apply moist heat by dampening a small towel and placing it on top of the essential oil application and then topping it with the heating pad. When all is arranged, sit or lie comfortably for 10-20 minutes. Be sure to turn off your heating pad after the session.
Note: Please follow the manufacturer's instructions and use a heating pad safely by avoiding prolonged or excessive application of heat to avoid burns or other skin issues. If any pain you experience remains or worsens, we recommend that you consult a healthcare professional for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.
Relieving muscle soreness can be a wondrous and freeing moment for one's emotional and physical health. To decrease pain, one of the most tangible methods is to take your mind off of it and focus on one's strengths and the positive aspects of one’s life. We know that sometimes this is easier said than done, but take it slowly and be kind to yourself!
A great deal of Edens Garden customers find Sore Muscles & Pain Ease to be a treasured blend not only for its uplifting, fresh and bright minty aroma but also as a go-to oil for releasing muscle and nervous tension at the end of the day. Blended into a carrier oil and massaged into the legs, it has been exalted for halting the discomfort of restless leg syndrome in its tracks (even at night) and easing chronic muscle, joint and headache pain by increasing circulation when it is applied.
Whatever massage or pain relief oil blend you try, note that Edens Gardens essential oils are pure, therapeutic and handcrafted. Compared to AromaTouch by doTERRA, Sore Muscles & Pain Ease essential oil blend is an affordable and equal alternative unless you consider the added cost that comes with the MLM structure of both doTERRA or Young Living oils.
How our body reacts to stress and anxiety can range from one person to the next, some being more resilient and able to cope than others. Stress and anxiety are akin to the fight or flight response our body goes through when threatened and include a surge of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. These hormones are meant to assist us over a short-term period when we are facing a threat. However, when stress and anxiety become chronic over the long term, the overload of hormones in our system can disrupt inner balance and stability. (1,2,3,4)
Relaxation offers a means to better manage stress and be physically healthier and happier. The hardest part about relaxing is figuring out what methods work best for each of us individually and remembering to make them a regular part of our daily lives. Being persistent in our efforts can provide an ability to mitigate anxiety and stress and in turn, have a profound impact on long-term health.
To fully understand the body’s stress response we must start with the Limbic System. As a functional center of our brain, it controls our hormones, emotions and memories. There are several hormone centers in this part of the brain but for our purposes, we will focus on two in particular - the Amygdala and the Hypothalamus.
The Amygdala is primarily responsible for our emotions such as anxiety, aggression, fear and pleasure. The Hypothalamus helps to maintain our homeostasis and is the hub of hormonal regulation within the endocrine system. It influences the sleep-wake cycle, body temperature, hunger pangs and even gives us goosebumps. The Hypothalamus is also the main hormone control center for the Autonomic Nervous System which balances itself between the Sympathetic (fight or flight) and Parasympathetic Nervous Systems (rest and digest - think Vagus Nerve). (5,6)
When frightened, stressed or anxious, the hypothalamus signals the adrenal glands (located on top of our kidneys) to release stress hormones which kicks into high gear the fight or flight response of the Sympathetic Nervous System. This infusion of hormones helps us think on our toes and act fast in the face of danger. In normal situations, when the threat has subsided, the Parasympathetic Nervous System takes over and returns cortisol and adrenaline levels to normal. (5,6)
When these hormones do not shut off due to chronic stress and anxiety it can throw off our body's equilibrium with issues that exacerbate generalized anxiety and stress and include difficulty breathing, digestive disorders, sleep issues, fatigue, irritability, headaches and heart palpitations and can even deplete the immune system.
Taking any necessary “time-outs” to relax helps us remain calm in the face of adversity and improves mood, focus and concentration and helps us make better decisions. Since the Limbic System can be reached directly from our nasal cavities, we can accomplish a state of relaxation by making use of essential oils and aromatherapy techniques. (7,8)
Among the slew of mood blends Edens Garden has handcrafted is the best seller Diffuse The Anxiety essential oil blend. Formulated with a soothing aroma to better mental health so that you can set free the day’s difficulties, it has a floral sweetness to support the heart with herbal, earthy and woodsy undertones that influence one’s outlook from grey gloom to sunny bliss.
In this blend, you will be delighted with the floral oils of two types of Lavender and Chamomile and supported by Ylang Ylang and the herbally uplifting Sweet Marjoram (aka the joy of the mountains). Rounding out this blend and giving it its legs, grounding and centering oils of Cedarwood- Virginian, Vetiver, Sandalwood- Hawaiian and Vanilla envelop you in warmth and security.
Components of this blend support mental health by reducing tension, softening anxious moments and full-fledged panic attacks, supporting stress relief and encouraging better sleep by paving the way for deeper breathing.
Combining the soft florals, woods, grass and herbal accents makes a delectable blend that is seductively appealing to those who use it. It is uniquely warm, simple and earthy with florals that do not overtake the blend. Balanced by the vitality, fortitude and grounding natures of Cedarwood- Virginian and Sandalwood- Hawaiian, Diffuse The Anxiety will transform and shift a bleak mood to break the cycle of stress and help users grow to be more resilient and less fearful with the strength and courage to move on in life. This blend is different from others in its particular ability to transition uneasiness into a positive mental attitude and a settled nature to say goodbye to any jitters that may normally accompany your day.
Both Lavender and Chamomile are staples of the essential oil world made by steam distilling the flowers and stalks of the plant. While Chamomile is more herbal, bitter and medicinal, they both have a distinct ability to deliver one to a more relaxed state of mind. They are equally powerhouse essential oils, touted for their ability to subdue nervous tension, quell anxiety and stress and improve sleep. (16)
For instance, this combination of essential oils was used via inhalation aromatherapy during a study of older community-dwelling adults. These oils overwhelmingly helped to lessen instances of their depression, anxiety and stress levels offering a relaxed mental state and improved sleep. In another study, there was a significant reduction in anxiety among nurses when combining the use of Lavender and Chamomile essential oils with music therapy. (16,17)
Diffuse The Anxiety Essential Oil Blend is there to bring mental rejuvenation by improving sleep and giving you a reason to take time for yourself. To improve emotional health and balance your mind and body our advice is to have a nightly ritual that includes meditation and deep breathing exercises to stimulate the vagus nerve and quell stress and anxious feelings before lying down especially when nervous tension arises and it is difficult to calm down to promote better slumber. (18)
Our number one and favorite way to use this blend is by diffusing. A simple method, diffusing can settle the heart by immediately releasing and infusing the nature of the oils into one's home or office environment. We suggest combining the use of Diffuse The Anxiety with activities you can do to further your journey of calming the heart and mind to truly relax.
It's best to experiment with different methods to find the ones that resonate with you and provide the most effective relaxation experience and combine the ritual use of essential oils into newly found relaxation techniques. Here are a few suggestions:

Rather than take hormones, she found Edens Garden essential oils and began using Diffuse The Anxiety to help soothe and even out her frame of mind and her husband is still alive today. 8)
Whatever techniques you use and which essential oils you love, we wish you an even temperament and sound sleep so that you can go about your days with a skip in your step and an inclination to laugh in the face of stress and tension.
There are several ways to achieve and find a few moments of rest each day, including unplugging from technology, savoring occasions with family and friends, spending time outdoors and engaging in mindfulness practices. These times are not a luxury but a necessity to better navigate the ups and downs with greater stability. It is a guide to balance our well-being and mental health to enhance one’s quality of life.
Finding moments of calm and stillness in our busy lives allows us to approach each day with grace and ease. Taking quiet moments supports our brains’ ability to focus and subconsciously sort out our experiences, day in and day out. To prioritize self-care and develop healthy coping mechanisms it’s important to find the outlets that work best for each individual. We don't all respond to stress in the same way, some being more resilient than others. Regardless, we all need strategies to reduce stress such as setting realistic goals, having social support and even seeking professional help, if needed.
Some outstanding reasons to create moments of serenity and quiet (1,2,3):
Having outlets to improve well-being and mental health, gives us more patience to deal with stressors and therefore undeniably impacts overall physical and mental health. Here at Edens Garden, stress-reducing strategies should also include incorporating essential oils into your daily life.
Via olfactory receptors in the nasal cavity, the constituents of essential oils act upon the Limbic System of the brain, specifically the Amygdala (our brain's processing center of emotions). The Limbic System sends out signals to the hormone centers of the body which assists it in striving for homeostasis and stability. When we are under constant strain day in and day out, stress hormones can manifest into physical and mental problems that lead to disease and disharmony within the body. Aromatherapy has shown an ability to calm the stress response and reduce stress hormone levels. (4)

It is a combination of base note essential oils such as Frankincense, Patchouli and Sandalwood united with heart-soothing florals of Rose, Cistus, Amyris and Ylang Ylang which work in unison to calm the heart by reducing blood pressure, heart rate and cortisol levels. (5,6,7)

As base notes, Frankincense, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang and Osmanthus, bring one's energy down and help to focus the mind. Ylang Ylang, although as a single oil, it may be too intense for some, it blends beautifully with other oils and is beneficial for its relaxing effects on inner tension and its competence in fortifying the body, heart, and mind. It is a heart-centric oil that naturally reduces blood pressure. (8)
The middle-base note floral oils are gentle and promote strength in the user. Rose- Bulgarian comforts, centers and calms the heart, eases the mind and reduces instances of emotional worry and tension and soothes distress. Cistus (aka Rock Rose) adds a hint of smoky sweetness to the blend and is known for its ability to overcome grief and comfort moments of anguish and distress. Amyris is earthy and balsamic and noted for its ability to reduce stress and collaborate with the other oils in this blend to encourage mental clarity and motivate a lackluster mood by stimulating focus and concentration.
Calming The Mind essential oil blend can be made into a topical skin care and massage oil blend by diluting it with a carrier oil or unscented cream. Applied to pulse points around the neck and head and massaged into the chest bone above the heart, this topical treatment intrinsically treats the reduction of stress and gets absorbed via the skin into the bloodstream and travels around your body to even out stress levels.
To blend into a carrier oil or cream, it's best to use this blend at a 2-3% dilution or 12-18 drops of essential oil to 1 ounce of carrier. For safe dilutions see our chart here. When using new essential oils and products topically, we highly recommend performing a skin patch test to avoid skin irritation. A quick DIY recipe that can be used anytime for anxiety and stress and even before settling down to sleep, add 12-18 drops of Calming The Mind to 1 oz of your favorite unscented lotion base or carrier such as Jojoba oil and apply to pulse points. With the oil blend still on your hand you can further reap its rewards by cupping your hands over your nose and breathing in deeply 4-5 times.
An alternate mode of transport for Calming The Mind is via inhalation. Embracing the use of a diffuser or an on-the-go essential oil inhaler (which can be packed with salts rather than cotton) will still your mind so that you can escape the hectic influences and bring your stress levels back to normal. For instructions on how to use your diffuser or nasal inhaler, we suggest you refer to the product page. For general diffuser use, we recommend no more than 6 drops per 100 ml of water.
And lastly, for a spa-like experience, make a DIY bath salt blend. Soaking in a warm tub with the exquisitely fused Calming The Mind blend will give you both the meditative moments you need to defuse stress after a long day. To get your home spa experience started, run a warm bath and blend the following: In a bowl, add 6 drops of Calming The Mind or other Mood blends of your choice to 2 cups of Epsom salt, ½ cup baking soda and 2 tablespoons of Castile soap. Once the bath is ready, pour the salt blend and swirl with your hand to dissolve the salts. Light a candle or use ambient light to set the mood and put some mentally calming music on your bluetooth speaker. Soak up the goodness for 15-20 minutes and enjoy the new you.

Essential oils are simple to incorporate into daily life. From bath salts to topical treatments and use in a diffuser, we have some ideas for you so that each and every day your life hums smoothly along. Voted Best Smelling is an OK for Kids 2+ blend but when used around children under the age of 10 it is recommended to err on the side of caution as with most essential oils used around and with young ones, maximum dilution should be kept at 1%. This translates to 5-6 drops per ounce of carrier oil or unscented lotion when used topically.
Edens Garden has many expertly crafted essential oil blends that tackle a number of issues and work well as diffuser blends. We stand behind every blend we carry as therapeutic, unadulterated and natural plant alternative remedies.
Adding to its abilities, over the past 15 years or so, Rosemary essential oil has also garnered significant attention and acclaim for its benefits in promoting hair growth. Today, we bring you the facts behind Rosemary's key components that contribute to a healthy scalp and lustrous hair.
Human hair growth, in simplest terms, goes through a cycle of anagen (active growth) and telogen (a resting phase where hair falls out). Hair loss and thinning hair can be due to any number of issues such as inflammation and stress, poor sleep, poor nutrition and even thyroid deficiencies (which mediates hair growth). (1) What we have discovered is that Rosemary helps to counteract thinning hair due to its ability to increase blood flow to the scalp. It does this by directly stimulating the hair follicles and promoting a transition of telogen to anagen phases, accordingly improving hair growth and thickness. (2)
Here are some other reasons Rosemary has gained traction for hair health:
With consistent and proper use, Rosemary essential oil can be a valuable addition to your hair care routine, supporting healthier, fuller, and more vibrant hair. To harness its benefits, it can be diluted with a carrier oil (see recipe suggestions below) and massaged onto the scalp or combed into the scalp regularly over the long term.
Alternatively for those who would like to avoid oils, Rosemary can be combined in a water-based hair and scalp spray or added to an unscented shampoo or conditioner. Whatever way you decide to add Rosemary into your hair care routine, you will also reap the benefits of improved mental clarity and memory enhancement. (7)
Regardless of which Rosemary chemotype you use, Rosemary- Moroccan, Rosemary- Spanish or a combination of three in Rosemary Around The World, they do all contain the constituents and properties we have written of in this blog but come with slightly different aromatic profiles. It's up to your nose to decide which you love best! To learn more about the different Rosemary essential oils and their chemotypes, read this special essential oil blog.
Please remember to stay patient, if looking to improve thinning hair, it could take up to 6 months to see results of hair regrowth. To make your life simpler, Edens Garden has a few special hair and scalp blends both of which contain Rosemary. Hair Love is made with proven oils to thicken and grow healthy flowing hair as well as add luster and Healthy Scalp for people looking to improve dryness and reduce irritation from dry or oily skin and scalp conditions.
Whatever your hair problems, remember you are not alone. With persistence and some help from Mother Nature, you will be able to alleviate the issue and move on in life. Here are a few more positive attributes of Rosemary to address the healing you need:
There are a number of options to choose from when it comes to natural ingredients. Carrier oils can be combined to make a massage oil for the scalp and hair or you can test your skills at making a water or hydrosol based spray for the scalp if you want to avoid adding oil to your skin. You can also make your own essential oil blend for hair and scalp health by combining Rosemary with essential oils such as Cedarwood, Peppermint, Thyme, Lavender, Sandalwood, Clary Sage and Tea Tree.
Carrier oils are derived from the fatty parts of plants such as nuts and seeds and are the perfect companion to essential oils. They help to dilute essential oils so that they are safe to use topically and extend their own benefits for the hair. Here are our favorites:
It's important to keep in mind that individual responses to essential oils can vary, so it's please perform a skin patch test when trying new oils and always dilute the essential oils before using them topically. Irritation can occur on the scalp and skin if used undiluted or at too high of a dilution such as rash, itchiness and inflammation. Follow this dilution chart and remember, less is always more, especially with potent essential oils.
Our recommendation is to use your hair blend 1-2 times daily or at least 3 times a week to see eventual improvement.
If you prefer to forego a carrier oil, we suggest a scalp spray that doubles as a natural perfume. Mix 40 drops of Hair Love, Healthy Scalp or just plain Rosemary- Moroccan essential oil with 4 teaspoons 190-proof grain alcohol in a 4 oz spray bottle fitted with a spritzer. Shake this mixture well and let infuse overnight or optimally for 24 hours. When done infusing, fill the rest of your bottle with either distilled water or a gentle hydrosol (the gentle water byproduct from making essential oils) such as Tea Tree, Lavender or Rosemary water to further calm scalp issues. Shake well before using and spritz onto the scalp.
For fuller thicker hair, blend 15-18 drops of Hair Love essential oil blend per 1 oz of unscented shampoo and/or conditioner. Shake well before use and when washing your hair with the shampoo, massage the soap directly into your scalp for 1-2 minutes and then rinse. Follow with conditioner if needed.

We are lucky to have been witness to so many success stories with the wonderful-smelling Rosemary essential oils. Users have praised the oil for helping to regrow thinning hair including the eyebrows due to various reasons such as menopause or chronic stress. Others have offered their own advice for hair-thickening massage oil blends stating that they do not lose as much hair after showering by leaving the scalp oil on overnight and washing it out in the morning.
One review in particular stood out above the others: Jessica stated: “Not only does it smell wonderful, but since adding it to my shampoo and conditioner, my thinning hair has gotten thicker and stronger. It's a great alternative to Minoxidil, which can have harmful side effects. It's fresh, clean scent is invigorating and uplifting!”
Just one whiff of its green, medicinal and camphor-like aromatics suggests its phenomenal true colors for cleansing, purifying and mood-enhancing. When inhaled through the nasal cavity, these molecules function by directly affecting the limbic and hormonal centers of the brain, travel into the lungs and bloodstream and immediately work to ease emotions and impact how we function day in and day out.
While essential oils gain traction in scientific research studies, Eucalyptus radiata essential oil is not an oil that has been overlooked. Containing a significant amount of the oxide 1,8 cineole, it is revealed that the oil has an astounding capacity for properties that are antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and decongestant. But that isn’t all! This same molecule has been found to have a stimulating effect on the brain which improves mental clarity and focus and offers a rejuvenating effect on temperament. (1,2)
Staying healthy does not only mean eating healthy, exercising, and getting an optimal amount of sleep. To function day in and day out without a glitch in this busy world of ours, it’s also important to have clean and refreshing indoor air to breathe. To improve indoor air quality, we can employ several methods such as HEPA-filtered air purifiers to remove particulate matter, allergens, and pollutants and we can also rely on nature’s gift of essential oils. Plants naturally help with air quality and embracing them to help us fulfill our needs is very simple.
When we need to freshen our environment and living spaces due to environmental factors or clear the air when someone has been sick, the main goal is to deactivate microbes on surfaces as well as airborne particles. To give us that extra push, Edens Garden produced Purifying Eucalyptus and it has what it takes! Here are some of the skills you can count on from this blend:
The aroma of Purifying Eucalyptus is cool, minty, medicinal, invigorating and expanding. Its enlivening aromatic tones are centered by the bright citrus of Sweet Orange and the smoky, earthy muskiness of Vetiver which help to keep one’s temperament calm and collected. It’s like no other oil blend in Eden Gardens repertoire.
This admirable unification of essential oils has a plethora of health benefits and can impact our senses and mood by working directly on our emotions - to bring an expanded breath to the forefront. Its talents are many and can include cooling a hot temper and ironing out an agitated outlook. Even on days when you may not have slept well but still need to keep up appearances, Purifying Eucalyptus will clear a foggy head and bring positivity and focus to the table.
Essential oils work on many levels such as helping to discourage the growth of germs, open the air passages, reduce stress, improve mood and heighten mental capacity. Purifying Eucalyptus essential oil blend is an excellent complementary medicine that does all of the above while maintaining a fresh and pleasant aromatic environment. It also reminds us to breathe deeply which improves respiratory function and diminishes stress to elevate mood.
Numerous studies uphold the pharmacological activities of Eucalyptus species in particular and recognize that it demonstrates an overwhelming potential to manage and treat many ailments including respiratory disorders such as from colds and flu as well as COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. Its ability to act as an airborne antimicrobial agent has led science to explore it further for its potential against Gram-negative bacteria and for use in antibiotics. (3,4)
But nature is more than just oil in a bottle. Treating yourself to daily strolls in nature can have a big impact on your mood and mental health. According to research, there is mounting evidence that getting outdoors whether to a beach or a forest or if you live in a city, a walk in an urban environment - can benefit us not only physically but psychologically as well. It is a poultice for our busy brains and improves cognitive skills and attention and prompts a physiological response that lowers stress levels. So turn off that computer or TV, take a whiff of Purifying Eucalyptus and get out for that walk around your neighborhood, park or garden! (5)
As with most essential oil blends, there are plenty of strategies to utilize them for their health benefits and body care. A note of caution: since this blend contains 1,8 cineole, it is not recommended for use with children under the age of 10 as it may restrict breathing. With children, it's always best to side with caution and before using any oils with children, have them smell the cap of the oil to see how they react to it first.
Here are some of our favorite modes of use:
Essential oils are holistic and complementary medicine that align with principles of self-care that positively influence the health of the body, mind and spirit. Whatever your needs, you can count on Edens Garden to take care of you, you are after all our family. We also know that everyone has different tastes and preferences especially when it comes to aromatics which is why we create numerous blends for health. Find exactly what you need when you need it. We will always be here for you.
Regardless, stress, whether from a bear attack or a police siren, is dealt with by our innate fight or flight mode response of the sympathetic nervous system (our body's gas pedal so to speak). An instinctual reaction by the sympathetic nervous system hones our auditory skills, increases heart rate and triggers a surge in hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline which provide our body with needed energy. These reactions are typically short term and the surges are normalized through the parasympathetic nervous system putting on the brakes once a threat has passed. (1)
Most of us, thankfully, are not being chased by bears but instead by the pressure of modern-day life. Although our lives are not technically under threat, the need to perform and act can push many of us to our limits. The brain and body interpret these limits as constant stress and our hormonal centers respond in exactly the same way as acute stress. However, long-term, chronic or excessive stress can lead to ongoing hormone imbalances and contribute to various health issues such as high blood pressure and persistent inflammation.
If our body's hormone balance is out of whack, homeostasis will in turn be disrupted. Homeostasis is the balance our bodies are constantly striving for and when the balance is unattainable, our bodies experience long-term hormone imbalance. This can show itself in a number of ways and includes night sweats, sleep disturbances, fatigue, anxiety, sexual dysfunction, depression and weight gain and can also include memory loss, brain fog and even incontinence. (2,3)
Understanding how to counteract this toll on the body and how to change your reaction to stressors can take time - time well worth the effort for your future and your peace of mind. Achieving inner balance, therefore, plays a major role in our physical, mental and emotional health. Managing stress can be attained in a number of ways including with aromatherapy and essential oils, various relaxation techniques, regular exercise, and meditation. Getting optimal sleep, eating a balanced diet and decreasing caffeine and sugar intake is also of utmost importance to help improve mood, decrease stress and normalize hormone levels. (3)
As a side note, while essential oil blends such as Hormone Balance can help reduce stress and tension, for some, hormonal imbalance can also be caused by certain medications and steroid use as well as stem from autoimmune disorders and even tumor growth. Under these circumstances, we highly recommend that it’s best to speak with your doctor(s) and even nutritionists to change medications as well as diet potentially. Ascertaining the root cause of hormone imbalance is of the utmost importance. (4)
Edens Garden Hormone Balance essential oil blend (formerly known as Balance), is made up of three simple but competent and dynamic essential oils: Lavender- Bulgarian (Lavandula angustifolia), Geranium- Egyptian (Pelargonium graveolens) and Sandalwood- East Indian (Santalum album).
Since stress inadvertently affects our overall hormone levels, the objective of this blend is to support users with a safe and effective encouragement of stress relief for our bodies and minds which will help to realign normal hormone levels. Essential oils have constituents, such as linalool and Linalyl acetate, that have shown an ability to alleviate depression, stress and anxiety and in turn calm the flight or flight response and promote inner balance. Let’s look at the oils and dive into some studies to understand how they affect the hormone centers of the brain to bring calm and peace to the mind and body. (5)
Lavender, as the mother of all oils, is widely acknowledged in the world of aromatherapy and most likely the most scientifically studied of all essential oils. It is revered for its main components Linalool and Linalyl acetate which have shown a capacity to calm an overactive nervous system and act as a sedative. It benefits the body by demonstrating an ability to increase melatonin levels for better sleep and furthers hormone balance by suppressing the stress response, in turn decreasing cortisol levels and reducing inflammation. (6,7,8,9)
Geranium has a very distinct aroma that is sweet and herbal with hints of lemon. Its main components consist of Citronellol, Geraniol and Linalool which are soothing to the heart and mind, offering comfort and serving to reduce anxiety and chronic stress as well as helping to lift fatigue for overall well-being. In studies, Geranium has similar benefits to Rose essential oil by balancing hormones, improving mood and supporting the menstrual cycle. (10,11,12,13)
Sandalwood has a very sensual character that is sweet and woodsy. Sandalwood is a master at building inner peace. It is a base note, grounding oil that blends extremely well with Lavender and Geranium. Its main components are alpha-Santalol and beta-Santalol which are neuro-protective, reduce blood pressure, act as sedatives and have a calming effect on the nervous system. Therefore, Sandalwood is used to promote relaxation and diminish anxiety and stress levels in turn decreasing cortisol levels, bringing serenity to the entire body. (14, 15)
Hormone Balance essential oil blend is an amalgam of Lavender, Geranium and Sandalwood essential oils that help to build the spirit and promote healthy living with three very synergistic single oils. Each oil with its different set of constituents supports each other to create a balance unmet by other health blends for reducing stress and anxiety, evening out hormone levels and protecting the heart and mind.
While employing this health blend, there are a number of techniques you can use to further calm the vagus nerve which plays a fundamental role in the parasympathetic (rest & digest) nervous system. Soothing the vagus nerve to attain calm can include practices easily infused into daily life such as yoga and meditation, listening to calming music, idealizing visualizations, receiving massage therapy and rhythmic exercises such as these breathing techniques and long quiet walks in nature. (16)

At the end of a long day, there is nothing better than taking some time for yourself. In a bowl, blend 6 drops of Hormone Balance with 2 cups Epsom Salts and 2 tbsp of liquid Castile soap and mix well. Meanwhile, fill up a warm tub, and add in the salt mixture. Let the salts dissolve before climbing in. Relax using calming breathing techniques for at least 15 minutes with calming music if you like. Bonus: The magnesium naturally found in the salts helps promote better sleep and relieves muscle aches.
While there are many factors that can throw life into a tailspin such as worry about finances or work stress, we cannot control all the situations life may throw at us but we can control how we deal with these stressors. By noting the triggers and indicators that bring out stress and anxiety, the most important thing is to be consistent in the use of calming activities listed above that fit one's personality best. Adding to that mix simultaneously is the use of essential oils that also work well for you. Hormone Balance is one of many essential oil blends for health made by Edens Garden.

Achieving and optimizing wellness through a holistic medicine approach takes into account the whole person rather than focusing on only one aspect of the body. When you achieve body and mind wellness, a whole world opens up that is full of vitality, happiness and purpose. Essential oils work on this whole-body approach to wellness by reducing the body's reaction to stress and normalizing hormonal balance.
Using methods such as inhalation and topical absorption, essential oil molecules travel directly to the olfactory nerves, directly impacting areas of the brain such as the amygdala - the seat of our emotions. The essential oil molecules make a direct impact in relieving an overflow of hormones such as those from stress, cortisol and adrenaline.
By also adding to your routine proper and healthy nutrition filled with vegetables and fruits as well as daily exercise and relaxation routines, a natural environment for health, wellness and a calm sense of mind is created which will follow you and your family for generations.

If you own a mechanical neck or back massager they can be used as pain relieving options as well but please follow the instruction manual for safe use.
For neck and shoulder pain, find a comfortable place to sit or even lie down such as on a yoga mat. Relax your shoulders and straighten out your neck and back by tucking your chin down slightly to realign the cervical bones. Close your eyes for a few minutes and visualize your muscles relaxing and take a few deep breaths down into your belly button. This will help to relax your diaphragm.
Reach your arms above your head and use your fingertips to locate the areas of pain in the neck from the base of the skull down to the upper shoulders. With just the right amount of pressure that you are comfortable with, massage the diluted massage oil into those areas where you find the most release of tension. If you find a particularly tense spot, hold it for a minute until the pain begins to dissipate and remember to breathe deeply and rhythmically in and out. You should feel the muscles relaxing under your fingers, not tensing up more.
For pain in the rest of the body, massage the oil blend into the skin and using the palm of your hand or your fingertips, massage the areas in small circles, eventually making that circle smaller to focus on an exact area of pain. Once you have located a painful spot, hold steady pressure on it for 60 seconds and then release the tension. Massage the area gently with the palm of your hands to finish and flush the area. Repeat these steps as often as needed.
For harder-to-reach areas such as the between the shoulder blades and midback, ask a partner or a friend to massage the oil blend onto the problem areas and afterward consider using a tennis ball to disperse areas of tension where knots might be lurking in the muscles. For those hard-to-reach areas of the back, you can follow the self-massage techniques in this article.

Oxidative stress is a form of physical body stress which is caused by free radicals(1). Although free radicals are considered a natural byproduct of the cell process, certain factors can increase their presence such as smoking, UV rays and even air pollution. According to Medical News Today (2), in the simplest of terms, free radicals are unstable atoms that cause oxidative stress in the cells of our body. This cell damage can lead to inflammation, signs of aging and illness as well as a host of other diseases.
It's important to note that chronic physical, emotional, and mental stress can also weaken the immune system and lead to chronic inflammation. This creates a cycle that reduces our ability to fight off infections and can lead to chronic diseases. To maintain optimal health, it's recommended to identify and manage internal and external stressors effectively, taking charge of leading a healthier life.
To kickstart this health journey, you can begin by cleansing and detoxing the body. A number of methods such as reducing processed foods, increasing consumption of healthy fruits and vegetables loaded with vitamin C, and carotenoids and flavenoids can help to reduce free radicals in the body and boost immune system function (1). Another excellent option is to cleanse and detox the body with safe use via inhalation or topical treatment of certain essential oils.
Notably, citrus essential oils are known for their antioxidative properties as they can bind molecularly with free radicals, neutralizing their harmful effects and reducing oxidative stress on the body. (3)
One such essential oil blend, Edens Garden Detox & Cleanse, enticingly targets full-body wellness. In general, essential oils have been known to work in tandem when combined with their sister oils rather than using a single essential oil. This blend combines top-notch essential oils such as Pink Grapefruit, Pink and Black Pepper, and Lavender and Lime which are noted not only for their luscious aromas but for their superior antioxidant and immune-boosting benefits and their ability to fight off microbes.
Detox & Cleanse is noted for its ever-so-slight bitter aromatic that is softened by its clean, refreshing citrus and floral essence that can not only soothe the heart and mind but can also act on oxidative stress all the while boosting the immune system and act as a preventative medicine. (4)
Citrus and floral oils are esteemed for their positive effect on mood, anxiety, inflammation and even their ability to fight germs and fungi. (5) Grapefruit in particular may have an ability to increase circulation and blood flow throughout the body increasing its ability as a liver protective and detox agent. (6,7) Plus, the uplifting oils in this blend such as Lime and Spearmint can help defeat exhaustion and fatigue, giving your day that extra oomph it needs. (8)
Detox & Cleanse, formerly known as Grapefruit Pink Pepper, has an intoxicating aromatic that can enhance well-being, reduce stress and bring elation to the heart and mind. It can be seamlessly integrated into your daily self care routine with a number of methods such as bath and foot bath blends, belly massage oil, and foot massage cream or even used simply by putting essential oils to work in an active or passive diffuser.
If you can find the time to pamper yourself each and every day, this small acknowledgment and moment of thanks for all the hard work you do can begin to transform your life. Whether it’s sitting outdoors for a few minutes to listen to the birds sing or for some quiet meditation, Detox & Cleanse can help to keep yourself mentally positive and physically healthy. At the very least, when the mood strikes, stop to smell the oils and take a few deep breaths - your immune system will thank you.
During the change of seasons, especially from summer to fall, it is important to stay strong and healthy. (9) The shift in temperatures from one season to the next can make the perfect conditions for viruses to flourish and spread leading to increased cases of colds and flu.
To stay on top of our health and reduce toxins, it's important to be mindful of sleeping well, eating healthy and getting exercise to naturally boost the immune system. However, when needed, essential oils offer their help to maintain a seamless entry from one season to the next to better one's health in the form of preventative measures.
One of the simplest measures we can take is to wash hands after being outdoors being mindful to do so before eating as a necessary means to keep germs from spreading. As luck would have it, many essential oils in Detox & Cleanse are naturally immune boosting and also have the strength to fight off viruses, bacteria and other germs you may have had contact with.
One easy DIY project is to make a liquid hand soap with Detox & Cleanse essential oil blend. All you need are a 4 oz bottle, a pump to go with it (or reusing a soap container can keep trash out of the landfill), 1 oz of unscented liquid Castille soap, 3 oz distilled water and 24 drops of Detox & Cleanse essential oil blend. And a little secret, this blend makes a really great gift for friends and family during the change of seasons.
Another uncomplicated method of use is with home or office diffusers. An alluring invention that helps to effortlessly emit essential oil molecules into the air, they are inhaled through the nose and immediately elicit a response via the olfactory system to the brain and central nervous system and from there, circulation throughout the body via the lungs and bloodstream.(3)
To distinguish between the multitude of active and passive diffuser types this blog post explains it all. One active diffuser type is the ultrasonic diffuser. Ultrasonics work by vibrating a small plate at its base which sends a mist of water and essential oil particles into the air. Once in the air, they are inhaled when you breathe and circulate through your bloodstream. The Pearl Ultrasonic diffuser and the Diamond diffuser are examples of this. Passive diffusers, on the other hand, gently send the essential oil particles into the air without stimulation, giving off a softer and gentler aroma such as the Reed diffuser and the Bloom diffuser.
Most essential oils can be considered multi-purpose due to their ability to assist with a number of issues including immunity and detoxification. There are some that cleanse the air and surfaces while also opening up the breath. Some bring calm to the heart and mind while bringing joy. Others can stimulate and uplift mood while simultaneously helping to focus scattered energy. And when united with each other in a blend to nurture a certain purpose, they can be unstoppable.
Whichever oils you choose, it is recommended to use your diffuser according to manufacturer instructions. However, as a general rule, we suggest placing 6 drops of essential oil per 100 ml of water in your diffuser to maximize their benefit with safety in mind.
Note: Please do not diffuse or use essential oils with children under the age of two as they are much more sensitive to essential oils than adults and the oils can potentially cause adverse reactions. For more safety information when using essential oils with children under the age of 10, we recommend reading this blog post.

Below are some simple DIY recipes for immune boosting at home to infuse into your daily rituals to maximize their effectiveness:
Combine in a bowl 1 oz Water, 4 tsp Liquid Castile Soap, 2 tsp Fractionated Coconut Oil, Pinch of Sea Salt or Epsom Salt and 10 drops of Detox & Cleanse essential oil. Mix this blend thoroughly, run your warm bath and add the bubble bath blend and soak for at least 15 minutes.
In a small bowl, measure out 2 oz of Epsom Salt to use as a foot scrub after soaking the feet for a few minutes. Place this aside.
In a small basin or tub that your feet can fit comfortably into and fill with very warm water and place the tub where you would prefer to sit to relax while soaking your feet. In a small bowl, place 4 oz of Epsom Salts, 1 tbsp of liquid Castile Soap & 6 drops of Detox & Cleanse essential oil and blend well. Once blended, add the salt mixture to the foot bath basin and mix the water and salts by hand until they have dissolved. Soak the feet for at least 15-20 minutes. After a few minutes of soaking, and with one foot at a time, use the reserved salts to scrub and soften your feet. To optimize your R&R time, dim the lights, light a candle, turn on some quiet music and close your eyes. After the allotted time, dry your feet thoroughly and moisturize afterward.
Making a foot massage cream can be very simple. Per ounce of your favorite unscented body cream, add 12-15 drops of Detox & Cleanse essential oil and blend thoroughly. Use a dime-sized amount per food as needed to moisturize the feet, this blend works well after the above foot bath.
Grapefruit essential oil is well known to help detox the liver by increasing circulation.(6) As a massage oil, blend 12-15 drops of Detox & Cleanse essential oil blend to 1 oz of your favorite carrier oil such as Jojoba oil, Apricot Kernel oil or Grapeseed oil. Massage this oil blend onto your belly, clockwise, in the direction of digestion. Adding a warm compress or heating pad for 5-10 minutes can help the essential oils absorb into the skin. Another oil option is Castor oil, however, this oil is very viscous and can stain clothing. It is recommended to use this oil in the evening before sleep and wrap a cloth over the abdomen, removing it in the morning and washing it off thoroughly.
Note: Grapefruit oil is phototoxic. If using this essential oil or this oil in a blend, please keep the area out of direct sunlight for 24-48 hours. You can read more about phototoxic oils in this blog post.
