- Oud essential oil is the product of an infected Agarwood tree from Southeast Asia that has been distilled to produce rare and precious oil. Its aroma has been coveted for centuries making it popular in high-end perfumes. Since antiquity, it has been used as incense to calm the mind and create a meditative environment. This rare product is so prized that professional Agarwood collectors exist to find and market the highest quality Oud.
- Oud oil has found its way into high-end perfume and fragrance for its luxurious, rich and unrivaled aroma. For centuries, Oud has been used for its grounding and calming properties which work to relax and restore the mind. - Agarwood (Aquilaria crassna) essential oil is synonymous with Oud essential oil. Both refer to oil produced from the wood of infected Agarwood trees that have been carefully steam distilled. These trees are commonly found and prized in South and East Asia. So prized in fact that high-quality infected heartwood from Agarwood trees sold for as much as $100,000/kg in 2010.
- Oud oil does offer some benefits to the skin, including skin nourishment and healing. To use Oud on your skin, dilute to 1% by combining 6 drops of Oud and 1 oz of high-quality carrier oil such as Fractionated Coconut oil. This mixture can be used as a facial serum, body oil or cologne when applied to pulse points. For added skin nourishment, add a few drops of pure vitamin E oil to the mixture.
- Oudh in English is referred to as Oud, Agarwood and also aloeswood. In Arabic, Oud refers to a rod, stick or thin piece of wood because Oud is often sold in markets in the Middle East as sticks and pieces of wood to be burnt as incense. Oud is also the name of a type of Arabic stringed instrument with a short, thin neck. In Cambodia where Oud is commonly produced, it’s known as “chann crassna.”

- Oud oil can effectively be used in an essential oil diffuser. For use in an ultrasonic water diffuser, add 10 drops of Oud per 100 ml of water. If you’re using a passive diffuser such as the Bloom Ceramic Diffuser, add 5 drops to the top of the diffuser and an additional 5 drops to the inner wick. For on-the-go use add 1-2 drops in the Mio Mist Diffuser or 10-15 drops in the Essential Oil Inhaler. Lastly, because Oud is thick it may need to be mixed with a thinner oil before use in a nebulizing diffuser.
