Is Petitgrain essential oil safe for dogs?
  • Animals such as dogs metabolize essential oils very differently than humans. If choosing to use Petitgrain essential oil around your dog, it’s important to look out for warning signs such as behavioral differences, such as whining, scratching or acting loopy. Stop using essential oils around your dog if you notice these signs, and don’t use essential oils around small dogs, puppies and pregnant dogs. We don’t recommend applying essential oils to your pup or administering oils orally without consulting a holistic veterinarian. You may diffuse small amounts of oil around your dog, but be sure to do so in a well-ventilated room where your dog can leave if desired.
What does Petitgrain essential oil do?
  • Petitgrain essential oil (Citrus aurantium) is similar therapeutically similar to Bitter Orange and Neroli. Emotionally, it helps to offset anger while boosting mood. Physically, Petitgrain is anti-inflammatory and sedative. In skincare, Petitgrain helps reduce the appearance of rosacea, acne, skin irritation and sunburn. Around the home, Petitgrain’s antibacterial properties make it a helpful purifier for your home.
What’s the difference between Petitgrain essential oil and Neroli?
  • Petitgrain is derived from the leaves of the same tree as Neroli. However, Neroli is steam distilled from the flowers of the Citrus aurantium tree. It’s therefore no surprise that they share a similar aroma quality. Petitgrain is sharp and vegetative whereas Neroli is floral, sweet and rounded. Petitgrain can alleviate stress and soothe away depressed emotions through direct inhalation. Neroli nourishes skin, reduces stretch marks and soothes anxiety.
What note is Petitgrain essential oil?
  • In perfumery, scents have ‘notes.’ A scent can be a top, middle or base note. Petitgrain is considered a middle note. Each aroma note reacts differently based on its volatility. Top notes tend to be the most volatile, meaning they don’t last that long after they’ve been exposed to air. However, top notes are generally the strongest aroma when you first smell a scent. On the other hand, base notes are the least volatile, meaning they last much longer and are not the strongest aroma when you first experience a scent but they grow stronger after being exposed to air.
