Derived from the berries of the evergreen Pimento tree, our Allspice essential oil, also known as Jamaica Pepper, captures the spirit of its origins. The name "Allspice" stems from its unique scent, which intriguingly combines the aromas of black pepper, clove, and cinnamon.

This prized oil, brought to Europe by intrepid 18th-century sailors, has become a mainstay in wellness practices and culinary creations. Historically, it was used in its native West Indies as a remedy for various ailments. Today, its vibrant aroma adds a spicy kick to herbal liqueurs like Chartreuse and Benedictine and infuses luxury into perfumes and soaps.

Here's a fun and easy way to incorporate Allspice essential oil into your daily routine: add a couple of drops to your diffuser for an invigorating home fragrance that recreates the atmosphere of a tropical paradise. Frequently Asked Questions
How to make Allspice essential oil?
  • Allspice essential oil is made via steam distillation. In steam distillation, plant material is placed in a still, water is added, then heat is applied to the unit. As the water heats, plants release their essential oil, the oil rises with steam droplets that are sucked into a pipe and the oil and water are then separated. While it may not be possible to make Allspice essential oil at home without a still, you can make aromatic hydrosol water that contains many of the same therapeutic benefits as essential oil. Click here for instructions on how to make your own hydrosol.
What does Allspice essential oil do?
  • Allspice is a lesser-known oil that can help with many body care issues such as combatting headaches, relieving cramped and strained sore muscles by promoting circulation. As a spice, it is known to alleviate tooth pain due to its eugenol content (similar to Clove- Bud). Traditionally in the West Indies, Allspice was historically used as a tummy remedy to relieve digestive issues. For a muscle massage oil blend, in a 1 oz glass bottle with a pump, fill to the neck with Jojoba Oil carrier oil. Then add 2 drops Allspice, 8 drops Rosemary, 5 drops of Peppermint and 5 drops of Helichrysum- Italicum. Shake well and apply to the skin over the sore muscle area. Apply heat over the sore muscles if desired for 10 minutes. This will help the essential oils sink deeper into the muscle tissue.
What are the essential oils in Allspice?
  • Allspice is a single essential oil extracted from an evergreen tree from the Caribbean Islands. It is also known as Jamaica Pepper or Pimento Berry essential oil. It is produced by steam distilling crushed berries from the plant. Allspice is not to be confused with a mix of aromatics such as Black Pepper, Clove and Cinnamon spices.
What does Allspice essential oil smell like?
  • The cultivation method of extracting the berries from the tree and crushing them, gives Allspice essential oil an exotic, sweet, spicy aroma. Allspice is a favorite alternative in many high-end men’s fragrances. The essential oil is used to flavor herbal liqueurs such as Chartreuse and Benedictine. Its distinguished aroma is also popular in perfumes and soaps.
Is Allspice essential oil safe for dogs?
  • If choosing to use Allspice essential oil around your dog, it’s important to look out for warning signs such as adverse behavioral differences, such as whining, scratching or acting loopy. Stop using essential oils around your dog if you notice these signs, and don’t use essential oils around small dogs, puppies and pregnant dogs. We don’t recommend applying essential oils to your pup or administering oils orally without consulting a holistic veterinarian. You may diffuse small amounts of oil around your dog, but be sure to do so in a well-ventilated room where your dog can leave if desired.
