Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between Key Lime essential oil and Lime?
  • Key Lime can be especially helpful for those struggling with sadness. It can uplift the spirit, reduce stress and offer a mood boost and sentiments of happiness. Beyond Key Lime’s sweet and tart aroma, it can be applied topically to help skin irritations and insect bites. It also can improve vitality during the cold and flu season. On the other hand, Lime oil is frequently used in facial and body cleansers and simple diffusion is the perfect way to purify the air and provide an uplifting fresh aroma. It contains high levels of limonene, making it an effective deodorizer to purify the air and excellent in naturally cleaning surfaces.
How to make homemade Key Lime essential oil?
  • Key Lime essential oil uses the Latin name Citrus x aurantifolia var. Swingle and is derived from the peel of Key Lime fruit through a process called cold pressing. A cold press works by pricking the citrus rinds, causing the essential oil to be released. The oil and juice then drip down into a container and are separated in a centrifuge. While it may not be possible to make Key Lime essential oil at home, you can make aromatic hydrosol water that contains many of the same therapeutic benefits as an essential oil. Click here for instructions on how to make your own hydrosol.
Is Key Lime essential oil safe during pregnancy?
  • Key Lime essential oil is safe to use while pregnant when following proper safety guidelines. It is not recommended that you use essential oils in the first trimester, which is considered the most delicate time in pregnancy. It is recommended that you do not use essential oils frequently, but rather minimally. Dilute your essential oil to 1% during topical skin application so that you don’t overwhelm your system. Lastly, if you’re having complications, it may be best to avoid essential oils.
Is Key Lime essential oil safe for cats?
  • If choosing to use Key Lime essential oil around your cat, it’s important to look out for warning signs such as behavioral differences, such as whining, scratching or acting loopy. Stop using essential oils around your cat if you notice these signs, and don’t use essential oils around kittens and pregnant cats. We don’t recommend applying essential oils to your cat or administering oils orally without consulting a holistic veterinarian. You may diffuse small amounts of oil around your cat, but be sure to do so in a well-ventilated room where your cat can leave if desired.
Can I use essential oils to make lime juice?
  • It is not recommended to use essential oils to make juice. Essential oils are powerful, concentrated substances so a little goes a long way. Two of the most effective ways to use them is by way of inhalation and topical use. Ingesting Key Lime essential oil is rarely necessary or recommended, no matter the brand. Ingestion can lead to adverse reactions such as medication contraindications, mucous membrane irritation, sensitization and nausea if done incorrectly. Therefore, if you wish to take essential oils internally, we strongly recommend consulting with a knowledgeable professional with experience in internal use.
