Pet Safety: Essential oils are generally safe to diffuse around adult cats and dogs intermittently. Ensure the room you’re diffusing in is well-ventilated and that your pet can leave if desired. Discontinue use if you notice any adverse reaction. Avoid topical use and diffusing around young pets, small animals or pets with health problems.
- Try using Goldenrod in a home diffuser for a simple application. Place 6 drops in 100 ml of water and diffuse intermittently for an hour at a time. In a massage oil, create an intimate ambiance between you and your partner by blending 15 drops into a carrier oil of your choice. In a room spray, blend 15 drops in a 1 ounce spray bottle with a tablespoon of grain alcohol such as Everclear. Let this concoction sit for a few hours or overnight. The next day fill the bottle up to the neck with distilled water. Shake and use as needed.
- Essential oils are powerful, concentrated substances so a little goes a long way. Two of the most effective ways to use them is by way of inhalation and topical use. Ingesting Goldenrod essential oil is rarely necessary or recommended, no matter the brand. Ingestion can lead to adverse reactions such as medication contraindications, mucous membrane irritation, sensitization and nausea if done incorrectly. Therefore, if you wish to take essential oils internally, we strongly recommend consulting with a knowledgeable professional with experience in internal use.
- There are a few ways to use Goldenrod essential oil to enjoy its full benefits effectively, including 1.) Dilute it to 1% by combining 6 drops of Goldenrod and 1 oz of carrier oil or unscented lotion. Apply it to the skin topically. Alternatively, use this blend as a facial antiseptic to improve skin health by applying it to the face and neck as the last part in your skincare routine. 2.) Create an on-the-go roll-on by adding 6 drops Goldenrod in a 10 ml roll-on, then top off with carrier oil. Apply to pulse points such as the neck and wrists.
- The perfume of the Goldenrod plant, Solidago canadensis, carries a rich licorice-like anise aromatic. The plant is steam distilled to make a middle note that is slightly bitter-sweet with grassy notes and an earthy undertone. It has a thin consistency and a clear to pale yellow color. It’s noted for its ability to aid the body by soothing the mind and works well in blends with Vetiver for meditation and in other blends when a calm, focused mentality is needed.
- To calm a seasonal allergy, breathe easier and other respiratory concerns combine 6 drops total of Goldenrod essential oil in a diffuser. It can be combined with Tea Tree and Sweet Marjoram to enhance allergy relief effects. For aches and pains from arthritis and muscular aches, blend it with Juniper Berry and Black Pepper into 1 ounce of Trauma oil for a muscle and joint rub. Apply heat to enhance the pain relief properties of the oil blend.

SPORTS MASSAGE: Add to a 2 ounce squeeze bottle: 8 drops of Goldenrod, 2 drops of Lavender, 5 drops of Roman Chamomile and 5 drops of Rosemary, then fill with Jojoba oil and shake to mix well. Massage into sore muscles. (1.7% dilution)
BATH SALTS: Combine: 3 drops of Goldenrod, 3 drops of Copaiba, 1 drop of Cedarwood Atlas with 1 tablespoon of Jojoba oil and 1/2 cup of Epsom salts. Stir together and add to a full bath for a relaxing soak. Use a spoon to scoop out. Avoid getting product wet to prevent contamination.
INSECT POTPOURRI: Place 2 cups of dried flowers or potpourri in a decorative bowl. Sprinkle: 10-15 drops of Goldenrod over the dried flowers. Place in an area where you want to ward off pests.
BITE AID: In a 1 ounce squeeze bottle add: 5 drops of Goldenrod, 2 drops of Helichrysum, 3 drops of Lavender and 1 ounce of aloe vera gel. Apply 2-3 times a day or as needed to assist the body's natural process of relieving insect bites. (1.7% dilution)
