While best known as a common vegetable, Celery Seed essential oil has been used for centuries in beauty products. In Creole and Cajun cuisine, the dried leaves and seeds are part of the ‘holy trinity’ – along with onions, and bell peppers.
Exquisitely smooth, celery extract is frequently added to soaps, perfumes and cosmetics. Its bitter essence may also help heighten awareness and focus.
Native to the Mediterranean, the celery plant grows to a height of 1-2 feet and sprouts soft greenish flowers that develop seeds. Through a steam distillation process the essential oil is extracted from the seeds.

- Celery Seed essential oil, Apium graveolens, is steam distilled from the seeds of the plant. It is native to the Mediterranean and grows to a height of 1-2 feet. Its sprouts are soft and the pale green flowers develop the seeds used to make this oil. The essential oil is a middle note that brings forth its aroma after the top notes have dissipated. The oil is known for its ability in body care products to help maintain the beauty of the skin. If the oil is oxidized it can cause skin sensitization. Always test new essential oils on the inside of the lower arm for any potential irritation before using on a larger portion of your body.
