Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What is the most hydrating carrier oil?
    • Avocado oil, Castor oil, Guava Seed oil, Shea Nut oil and Tamanu oil are amongst the most hydrating carrier oils. Avocado Oil is emollient-rich, protective, balancing and nourishing. Castor Oil protects and heals dry, damaged skin such as eczema. Both Shea Nut and Tamanu oil moisturize, protect and nourish the skin. Each of these oils makes an excellent addition to your skincare routine if you suffer from dry or damaged skin.
  • Which carrier oil is best for the face?
    • Also known as beauty oils, some of the best carrier oils for the face include Argan oil, Baobab Seed oil, Fractionated Coconut oil and Prickly Pear Seed oil. These oils are fast-absorbing, non-greasy and pair well with other topicals including makeup. We chose them for their free-radical fighting abilities and their ability to improve the appearance of skin quickly and naturally. These oils are also occlusive, meaning they lock in skin serums and ingredients. Because of this, we recommend applying your chosen carrier oil as the last step in your skincare routine, or before using sunscreen.
  • Which carrier oil absorbs the fastest?
    • Some of the fastest absorbing carrier oils are Cucumber Seed oil, Evening Primrose oil, Jojoba oil and Rosehip oil. Because of their ability to absorb quickly, these oils are often referred to as “dry” oils. Carrier oils that absorb quickly are most beneficial for skin that is naturally oily because these carriers can help to balance the skin’s natural oil production while also providing nourishment. When applied under makeup such as foundation, these oils may give a matte look to foundation and skin. Note that fast-absorbing oils are not recommended for use in massage because they absorb too quickly to provide adequate lubrication.
  • What is the best carrier oil for aging skin?
    • A few of our favorite carrier oils for aging skin are Apricot Kernel oil, Camellia Seed oil, Hemp Seed oil and Meadowfoam oil. Each of these oils helps to restore and protect against damage caused by free radicals, as well as reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles naturally. When paired with skin nourishing essential oils such as Frankincense, Helichrysum- Italicum, Rose and Myrrh, these carrier oils are made even more effective. We suggest combining essential oils, such as these, with the carrier oil of your choice and diluting them to 1% by mixing 6 drops of essential oil in 2 tbsp of carrier oil. Apply your oil serum both morning and night as the last step in your skincare routine or before applying sunscreen.
