Thanks! It is a fairly recent development in the aromatherapy world. The thing with adding carrier oil though is that it still won’t mix with the bath water. You’ll have blobs of oil floating on top which can lead to a slippery mess. The blog I linked to in my prevoid comment explains why a surfactant is needed. Shampoo, body wash, even castile soap work really well as surfactants and are easily accessible.

Hi Jeanna! In our aromatherapy training, we were taught carrier oil was not necessary if well mixed, but adding carrier oil does make this recipe extra skin safe. Because we always want to err on the side of extreme caution, we’ve added carrier oil to this recipe. Your input is much appreciated :)

Recently there has been a lot of buzz in the aromatherapy community about using essential oils in baths. With more people using them, there have been more adverse reactions and a lot of them are happening in the tub. New info says we need a surfactant to fully mix essential oils in water and that epsom salt and baking soda don’t do the job. Shampoo, body wash, even bubble bath will work. Great info from this AT’s blog: https://lifeholistically.com/proper-use-of-essential-oils-in-the-bath/
