This Or That: Germ Ease Vs. Healthy Hero Blend

Whether you take them to summer camp, the playground, or the zoo, keep your children protected from bacteria and illness with our germ-busting blends from our OK For Kids line. You may have noticed we offer two kinds of wellness blends for children -- Healthy Hero and Germ Ease. So which should you choose? We’ve outlined the differences below:

Healthy Hero

Healthy Hero consists of Lemon, Lavender, Rosalina, Sweet Marjoram and Spruce essential oils. Its citrusy and piney aroma is sure to please your little ones, all the while you get to be the hero that defends your child’s immune system from illness. Since hand washing is the primary factor for preventing the spread of illness, we recommend checking out our DIY Foam Hand Wash to make for the whole family. If your child gets sick, simply apply topically to the chest, back of neck or feet at a 1% dilution.

Germ Ease

Our bodies have natural defenses in place to ward off infections, but it’s always a good idea to give them a little boost. Germ Ease is an earthy, cleansing blend of Frankincense, Lemon, Juniper Berry, Sweet Marjoram, Pink Pepper, Cedarwood, Sweet Orange, Petitgrain, Cedarwood, Damiana, Blue Tansy and Vanilla CO2. Try making an on-the-go hand sanitizer. Dilute to 1% in an aloe jelly base and put in a small squeeze bottle. Or try combining 18 drops Germ Ease, 1 oz water with 1 tsp grain alcohol. Spray onto counter tops, shopping carts, restrooms, restaurants or wherever germs might be lurking.

The Verdict

Healthy Hero and Germ Ease are both excellent choices for warding off microbes. They are also equally effective at treating you and your child should an illness befall your household. Their differences lie primarily in their aroma. As always, we recommend trying both and switching back and forth to benefit from all the aromatherapeutic benefits. Please keep in mind that the Pink Pepper in Germ Ease is part of the Cashew family, and should be avoided if your child has a nut allergy.

It’s a shame to see your kids confined to the indoors because they caught a summer cold. Whether it’s Healthy Hero or Germ Ease, a natural solution is ideal for boosting your child’s immune system and keeping them healthy all season long.

Hi Karen! Tansy generally refers to an oil of the botanical Tanacetum vulgare, which we do not offer because it is toxic. This is also the oil that causes epileptic seizures, not Blue Tansy. But as you mentioned, please talk to his doctor before using essential oils.

Hi Tasha! Pink Pepper is the only one, and than there are carrier oils such as Hazelnut, Coconut, Sweet Almond and Macadamia.

My husband has epilepsy and can’t tolerate regular Fighting Five or Guardian because of the eucalyptus and rosemary oils in them. I also noticed that tansy could trigger an episode as well (I didn’t see blue tansy…just tansy). But I read that blue tansy is different from just tansy. Does that mean that I could use either Germ Ease or Healthy Hero for his diffuser if he gets sick (and yes, I will consult his doctor)?

I had no idea that pink pepper is part of the cashew family!! Are there any other nut family essential oils that you sell as singles or are part of blends, like Germ Ease? Thank you!!
