The Best Soap Ingredients For Your Skin

Are you searching for ways to cleanse, hydrate, and exfoliate your skin?

This looks like a job for… soap! But not just any soap. Many everyday soaps are filled with harmful chemicals that may cause more problems than they fix. Instead, you need natural soap that supports your skin and gives you that healthy glow.

For this, you need to know each ingredient you’re putting on your skin, especially the ones you put on your face.

Today, we’ll discuss the ingredients you should be looking for in a soap product.

How is Soap Made?

Have you ever wondered, “what is Bar Soap made out of?”

Throughout the history of soap, it has been made by mixing fatty acids with sodium hydroxide (lye). But doing that is easier said than done. Soap making is part art, part science. It takes trial and error and careful formulations. Eventually, the lye and fatty acid create a chemical reaction known as saponification.

So, what's in bar soap? At Edens Garden, each bar of natural soap contains saponified, cold-pressed carrier oils of olive oil, coconut oil, and sustainable palm oil. Once the saponification process is complete, these soaps have the ability to pick up oils and dirt from the skin and wash them away in water, while also conditioning the skin with the oil’s emollient-rich properties.

Bar Soap Ingredients

We’ve sought to create the cleanest and healthiest soap possible. Unlike commercial soap, during soap production, our soap bars are made with 100% clean, natural ingredients free of synthetic fragrance and harmful chemicals.

To help you understand what exactly is in our natural Bar Soaps, our aromatherapists have broken them down into their core ingredients.

  • Essential oils – Each artisanal soap bar uses a blend of 100% pure essential oils chock full of antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral properties. The essential oil combinations are precisely formulated to create the most pleasing aroma and to get the maximum benefits out of each and every wash.

  • Olive oil – Cold-pressed from olive pits, olive oil is high in oleic acid. Olive oil is known for being easily absorbed, mimicking sebum, promoting skin regeneration and is preferred for sensitive and dry skin types, making it a popular ingredient for skin care. The only reason we don’t offer this wonder oil is because it's so widely available.

  • Coconut oil – High in lauric acid, Coconut oil softens, moisturizes and helps to repair damaged skin. What Coconut oil may be most useful for as a soap base is its ability to help combat a multitude of skincare issues such as eczema, psoriasis, and inflammation. We felt we needed to include this oil in our Bar Soaps as it is one of the best all-around carrier oils, period.

  • Palm oil – Containing high amounts of oleic acid, sustainably sourced Palm oil is known for its antioxidant, emollient-rich properties. No need to fear, the palm oil in our Bar Soaps is sourced from farms committed to sustainability and not the deforestation of rainforests.

  • Soybean oil – With its high linoleic acid content, soybean oil helps reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL), keeping skin moisturized, preventing dryness, promoting skin healing, and helping to combat eczema, psoriasis, and inflammation. With the latest research in the industry showing that soy is a huge benefit to one’s health, cold-pressed soybean oil is a great addition to our natural Bar Soap.

  • Herbs, clays, and spices – Each soap may contain a proprietary blend of organic herbs, clays, or spices to add natural color and texture. Our Charcoal Bar also contains activated charcoal, which picks up and removes toxins and other impurities from the skin.

Hi Jan! Lye was used to make our soaps, but none remains in the finished product. You can learn more about how lye is used in soapmaking here: https://www.edensgarden.com/blogs/news/what-is-lye-everything-you-need-to-know-and-more

So, your soaps contain lye? Is that what “saponified oil” means?
