There is a reason Lemon fragrances are added to many household cleaning products. Its natural essence and crisp aroma is marvelously fresh. So skip the chemicals and give Lemon oil a try.
When used in aromatherapy, the Lemon essential oil scent can uplift sullen moods and inspire positive thinking. Sourced from the romantic lands of Italy, Edens Garden essential oil is the highest quality available.
Lemon trees reach about 20 feet in height and grow serrated leaves, thorns and fragrant flowers. The citrus fruit is high in vitamin C. To extract the citrus oil, the Lemon peel is cold pressed.

- Lemon is a great addition to topical essential oil blends for body care. But like many of the citrus oils, Lemon essential oil is phototoxic when used topically when used over the maximum dilution above 2% (10 drops or more of a specific oil in a 1 oz carrier oil). If you are exposed to UV rays from direct sunlight or a tanning bed, Lemon oil will redden and burn your skin. Read more about phototoxic oils here. Tisserand & Young recommend waiting 12-18 hours before exposing yourself to UV rays after applying phototoxic oils to the skin. Even with the safe dilution levels, we would recommend avoiding any unnecessary topical applications of Lemon essential oil if UV exposure is expected. If you would like to use Lemon topically, we recommend blending it with a skin soothing oil such as Lavender and/or Frankincense at a maximum dilution of 2% in one ounce of carrier oil such as jojoba or almond oil. Check out our dilution chart here.
- Dogs have unique physiology, and cannot metabolize most essential oils like humans can and it’s why we must be careful with how we use essential oils around dogs. When choosing which oils to use with your pup, keep the following in mind: your dog’s age, size, medical history, allergies, and needs. With all this in mind, Lemon essential oil is on the safe list to use around dogs. If you would like to read more about what oils are safe and which to avoid, check out our blog post on essential oils and dogs here.
- Lemon, with its refreshing aroma and air freshener quality, is often used in cleaning products for good reason. It has strong antibacterial and antifungal properties and is also a fabulous addition to immunity blends. In skin blends, its purpose is to aid the healing of blemishes and wounds and is beneficial as an antioxidant. As an astringent, it is an excellent addition to help control oily skin conditions. Other uses include controlling body odor, reducing nausea, relieving stress, uplifting mood and as an energy booster. If that wasn't enough to highlight Lemon's incredible benefits, consider using lemon in a topical blend with Lavender, Sandalwood, Rosemary and Vetiver when you feel a sore throat coming on.
- The amount of essential oil produced from the rinds of the lemon fruit is minuscule compared to the amount of juice a lemon can produce. With that in mind to fill up one small 5 ml bottle of cold pressed Lemon essential oil, it takes approximately 25 lemons. That's a lot of squeezing!
- There are a number of ways to use Lemon essential oil including to uplift and enhance a positive state of mind - Lemon is an incredible mood enhancer. An incredible trio of Tea Tree essential oil and Peppermint and Lemon make a great blend to add to DIY cleaning products. For topical treatments, cold-pressed Lemon is phototoxic. Using at a maximum dilution of 2% makes a nice addition to skin products - Lemon is a great skin astringent, tightening and contracting skin tissue. If you would like to cleanse the air, Lemon in a blend diffused with other antimicrobial oils is a great way to cleanse and purify the air and surfaces.
