Let's Talk: You Deserve the Truth About Our Lilac Oil
When it comes to florals, there’s nothing quite like the intoxicating aroma of fresh lilacs in bloom or the soft, sweet whisper of lily petals in spring. At Edens Garden, we know that aroma is personal and often steeped in memory, emotion, and experience. That’s why we poured heart and science into creating our In Bloom collection, featuring floral blends like Lilac, Lily, and Gardenia.
But we’ve heard your feedback, and we believe in addressing it head-on. Some of you have asked, “Why doesn’t this smell exactly like the flower?” Or, “Isn’t Lilac supposed to be a single essential oil?” We’re here to explain, with full transparency and expert insights, how and why we created these beloved blends, and why we stand behind them with confidence.
What People Are Saying
We appreciate every review, question, and comment we receive from our Edens Garden community. Two common themes have come up around our Lilac, Lily, and Gardenia essential oil blends, and we want to take a moment to thoughtfully address them.
1. “I thought Lilac was a single essential oil.”
This is a fair question and one we hear often. It’s easy to assume that, like Lavender or Peppermint, Lilac essential oil must exist. However, Lilac (Syringa vulgaris) does not yield a true essential oil through steam distillation or cold pressing, the two primary, natural methods used to extract essential oils.
2. “It doesn’t smell the way I expected.”
Aromas can be deeply nostalgic. You may remember a grandmother’s backyard full of lilac bushes or a gardenia corsage from prom. When something doesn’t match that aroma memory exactly, it can be disappointing.[1] But there’s more to the story, and a lot more going on behind the scenes.
Addressing Your Feedback
Let’s pull back the curtain and talk about what makes our In Bloom collection so special, starting with a critical truth:
Flowers like Gardenia, Lilac, and Lily do not produce essential oil.
These delicate flowers cannot be distilled in a way that yields a viable, natural essential oil. Any “Lilac essential oil” you find on the market is either a fragrance oil, made with synthetic ingredients, or a carefully crafted blend of pure essential oils and extracts that replicate the aroma as naturally as possible.
At Edens Garden, we don’t do synthetic. Our Lilac, Lily, and Gardenia blends are 100% pure, expertly formulated, and made with no additives, no synthetics, and no artificial fragrances.
How We Created These Blends
To bring these florals to life, our team collaborated with a certified aromatherapist and essential oil chemist to develop blends that reflect each flower’s natural aroma using only pure botanical ingredients. Here’s what went into the process:
- The Chemistry of Flowers: We studied the chemical profiles of the real flowers, identifying the aromatic compounds that give them their signature aroma.
- People’s Aroma Perception: Because aroma memory varies, we tested with a diverse group of users to determine what people commonly associate with each floral note.
- Essential Oil Data: We combed through decades of essential oil research to find botanicals with similar aromatic compounds to Lilac, Lily, and Gardenia.
- Olfactory Research: Our perfumers utilized top, middle, and base notes to create full-bodied aromas that unfold like real petals opening.
Each element served as a piece of the puzzle that brought our In Bloom collection together. While these blends may not smell exactly like a fresh-cut flower, they are the closest, 100% pure essential oil blends available that reflect the beauty and essence of these blooms.
Real Customer Testimonials
We could talk about these floral oils all day, but we’ll let some of our customers speak for themselves.
Lilac
“While it’s not exactly how lilacs smell imho, the blend smells beautifully and close to the real thing.” – Josie
Lily
“I am floored how this aroma was created with only essential oils. It smells so much better than any fake thing.” – Chrissy
Gardenia
“Gardenia is SO GOOD. I want to wear it every day and gift it to everyone. I’m in love.” – S.F.
These reviews echo what we’ve heard time and again: our customers are impressed by the authenticity, purity, and beauty of these floral-inspired blends. And while we acknowledge that aroma perception is deeply individual, we’re proud that these oils resonate so strongly with so many.
We Value Transparency
At Edens Garden, transparency is one of our core values. We never want you to feel misled or confused about what’s in your bottle. That’s why:
- We clearly label our floral blends as “essential oil blends,” not single essential oils.
- Our GC/MS-tested oils come with batch-specific reports available for every single oil we sell.
- We don’t use synthetic fragrance, chemical additives, or fillers ever.
We know the world of aromatherapy can be confusing, especially with misleading marketing from other brands. That’s why we’re here to educate, inform, and create a better standard for essential oil purity.
Why It Matters
Aroma is powerful. It affects mood, memory, and even physiology.[2] That’s why we believe in offering safe, natural, and truthful alternatives to synthetic fragrances. When you choose our Lilac, Lily, or Gardenia blends, you're not just choosing a floral scent, you’re choosing:
- 100% pure essential oils, expertly formulated
- Free from synthetic fragrance or perfume
- Carefully researched and crafted based on aromatic science
- A company that values your trust as much as we value quality
So if you’ve ever wondered why our Lilac doesn’t smell exactly like a bouquet, or why a true Lily essential oil isn’t on the market, we hope this blog gave you the answers you deserve.
Truth In Every Drop
We created the In Bloom collection not to mimic nature with perfection, but to honor it with integrity. Each bottle is a labor of love, made with your health, wellness, and aromatic enjoyment in mind.
We invite you to experience our floral blends with an open heart and nose. You might just discover a new favorite, or reconnect with an old memory in a beautifully unexpected way.

I am an aromatherapist, and formulate as well, I love your oils, and the info you provide, still it is amazing to me that people still have little education around essential oils. I appreciate your educational responses.
Gina
I love your transparency!
Rhonda
I’ve ordered all three of these oils and like your email said from others was disappointed about not smelling like what I expected. But I discuss anyway and tell myself it’s another nice scent.

Nice article, I enjoyed the detail about how you put these blends together!

I too have been incredibly disapointed with the in bloom collection. As a yoga instructor I use aromatherapy in all of my classes and since 2011 have only used Eden’s Garden and have recommended them to hundreds of students throughout the years. In the case of the in bloom collection I feel as though I wasted my hard earned money on something that does not smell as advertised. Again, extremely disappointing.

Bought hundreds of dollars of these blends and am so dussapoined. I have been a supporter and customer of your company for a very long time long time and would not buy from any other. This is my second issue, the first were those nasty perfume sprays. You let me down.

EG marketing chose to use the name of a SINGLE REAL FLOWER to name a BLEND they CREATED that in several cases doesn’t even CONTAIN ANY of that flower distillate and rely on the general buying public to IGNORE the name of the flower and focus on the tiny “TM” superscript and almost AS obscured word “BLEND” —-looking almost like an afterthought? REALLY??? Expecting the average consumer to SEE much less UNDERSTAND what that little “TM” superscript means was shortsighted and probably a marketing gamble that didn’t exactly pay off in dividends. I still love EG but your marketing team didn’t think this one all the way through and I would FULLY expect the disappointment and backlash from this decision.

Thank you for the clear explanation of the creation of the new flower fragrances. The only one I have tried is gardenia and I admit that I was disappointed because I have used products that are gardenia scented in the past that reminded me of the smell of blooming gardenias. But now I understand that those fragrances were artificial which I try hard to avoid. Thank you for explaining!!!
Maureen Lazzari
Thank you for that explanation. It’s nice to know ad feel your integrity. I love your essences and will try these new blends. Thanks!
Eva
Hi! Could you confirm if your company is from the United States?
Pamela
I still would want to know what oils are in each blend and what their medicinal uses are. Rosemary and thyme oil, for example, both shoot my blood pressure WAY up, so I have to avoid both of them.
Florence
I love all the floral oils, I had purchased the whole collection and my house is full of floral aroma all day. Also like to blend them to other essential oils to level up the aroma.
Thanks EG for adding this in bloom collection for us.
