Trending Aroma: Frankincense
The world is filled with wonderful essential oils, but Frankincense’s popularity and health benefits have stood the test of time, earning its place in the pantheon of exceptional essential oils. With a long history of use dating back thousands of years, the fact that Frankincense is trending upwards doesn’t surprise us. But it does beg the question, “Why?”
A good portion of Frankincense’s market growth is driven by its newfound value in the pharmaceutical industry. While people have long known the healing power of Frankincense (which is extracted from a tree of the genus Boswellia, native to the Middle East and South Asia), the pharmaceutical industry is looking to expand the market on this essential oil. With an ability to improve skin health, reduce arthritic pain and other cardiovascular health (to name but a few), it shouldn’t be hard at all.
As market research from A Greater Town explains, “Among all the segments, the use of frankincense oil is more in the cosmetic and personal care segment as it is mostly used in aromatherapy in order to relieve anxiety and stress...The growing demand of [sic] organic products among the consumers is expected to drive the frankincense oil market to a significant rate.”
While growth of the Frankincense oil market has been incremental over the last 20 years, it is expected to explode by 2025 due to its increased visibility among medical professionals. Additionally, there is a growing demand in Europe for this essential oil. Luckily, production has also been on the rise to accommodate the newfound demand.
